The Best OSRS Food

What are the best foods for healing in OSRS?

It’s time to brush up on your cooking skills in Old School Runescape, because food is more important than you might think!

Consumables can be essential for keeping you alive during tough battles, but not just any piece of cooked meat will do.

If you want to increase your chances of surviving tough dungeons, we’ve rounded up all of the foods you should bring along.

OSRS: The 10 Best Foods For Healing

To create this list, we’ve compared all of the different types of food in OSRS to find the one with the best healing benefits.

Keep in mind you will need a decent cooking skill level for many of these items in order to cook them!

So, get your cooking cape ready because here’s our list of the 10 best foods for healing in OSRS:

10. Shark

Best OSRS Food Shark

Shark is one of the most popular food items in Old School Runescape because it provides a lot of healing and can be easily caught.

However, sharks can only be caught with harpoons, requiring a level 76 in fishing, or barehanded with a level 96 fishing and 76 strength.

That said, they can also be purchased from the Grand Exchange for around 550 coins each, making it easier to come by.

While shark provides 20 hitpoints when consumed, cooking it can be tricky even with a high cooking skill.

Shark doesn’t stop burning at fires or normal ranges, even if you have a level 99 cooking skill.

This means you will need to have the Cooking Cape, one of the best skillscapes in OSRS, in order to stop them from burning.

If you’re able to keep a couple of pieces of cooked shark in your inventory, you’ll be in good shape for any difficult quest.

9. Monkfish

OSRS Best Food Monkfish

Monkfish can be caught with a small fishing net in the Piscatoris Colony if you have a fishing level of 62 and have completed the Swan Song quest.

As one of the best OSRS foods, monkfish heals 16 hitpoints, making it a popular choice for monster hunting and tough dungeons.

Unlike shark meat, monkfish will stop burning at level 90 on a range or level 92 on a fire, removing the possibility of ruining it.

This makes them more appealing to some players, since the Cooking Cape isn’t needed to guarantee it can be cooked perfectly.

If you don’t feel like catching these fish yourself, they can also be purchased on the Grand Exchange for 250 coins.

Although it restores the same amount of hitpoints as egg potatoes and potatoes with cheese, because cooking monkfish requires only one ingredient, it is easier to make.

It is also possible to cook them without having completed The Swan Song quest, because they can be traded between players or bought.

8. Summer Pie

Best OSRS Food Summer Pie

Summer pie is one of the best food items in OSRS because it restores 22 hitpoints in total, 11 with each bite.

It also restores 20% of energy when fully consumed and provides a temporary boost to agility of 5 levels.

If you’re using one of the best ranged weapons in OSRS, this boost can be especially useful.

This pie is created by baking a raw summer pie on a cooking range, though you will need a level 95 cooking skill.

Like shark, summer pie can be burned even at level 99, so having the Cooking Cape to prevent this is recommended.

However, players can also cast the bake pie spell from the Lunar Spellbook to guarantee successful cooking.

Once a summer pie is consumed, a pie dish will remain in the players’ inventory, which can be used to make another pie.

7. Anchovy Pizza

OSRS Best Food Anchovy Pizza

Made with a 55 cooking level, anchovy pizza is a plain pizza cooked with anchovies, which provides additional healing.

An anchovy pizza will heal players for 18 total hitpoints or 11 hitpoints per half consumed, which is extremely useful.

What makes this one of the most popular food items in the game is that it has a fast eat time, making it easy to use during PvP.

To make an anchovy pizza, players can purchase plain pizzas from the Warriors’ Guild for 47 gold each or make them using flour, water, tomato, and cheese.

When you have a cooked plain pizza base in your inventory, all you have to do is add anchovies as a topping and consume it when needed!

We should also mention that anchovy pizzas are the highest healing food per slot in free-to-play mode, making them extremely valuable to have.

These pizzas can also be purchased on the Grand Exchange for around 620 coins if you don’t want to spend time making them yourself.

6. Karambwan

OSRS Best Food Karambwan

Karambwan is one of the most unique food items in OSRS because if eaten after another food or drink, the karambwan is consumed with almost no delay.

This combo-eating effect can be further enhanced by drinking Saradomin brew, the karambwan, and a base food item.

Players can heal over 50 hitpoints extremely rapidly, but you have to consume the base food first, followed by the brew and then the karambwan, for it to work.

When paired with some of the best melee armor in OSRS, this food item can keep you alive in some very tough situations.

On its own, this food item can heal 18 hitpoints and can be cooked using a level 30 cooking skill.

However, this consumable can be burned up to cooking level 99 on both fires and ranges, so using the Cooking Cape is recommended.

5. Pineapple Pizza

Best OSRS Food Pineapple Pizza

Pineapple pizza may be a divisive food item in the real world, but in OSRS, it is a powerful healing item.

Capable of high healing, pineapple pizza can restore 22 hitpoints, 11 per bite, and both bites can be taken in quick succession.

This pizza can be made using a level 65 cooking skill and adding either pineapple chunks or pineapple rings to a plain pizza.

Like anchovy pizzas, the base plain pizza can be either bought from the Warriors’ Guild or made from scratch.

We do recommend cutting pineapples into rings instead of chunks, since this will yield four rings that can be used on multiple pizzas.

If you decide to dice the pineapple, you will only receive one chunk, limiting the amount you can make.

Additionally, the cook at the Servants’ Guild can make pineapple pizza, though it is more expensive and slower than doing it yourself.

4. Tuna Potato

OSRS Best Food Tuna Potato

Tuna potatoes, as unappetizing as they may sound, are a members-only food that is considered one of the best food items in OSRS.

Requiring a level 68 cooking skill to create, a tuna potato will restore 22 hit points, making it one of the highest hitpoints restoring food items that take a single bite.

In order to make this food item from scratch, you will have to cook a raw potato on a range to make it a baked potato and add butter to it.

Raw tuna should then be cooked on a range, along with sweetcorn, which you can combine with chopped tuna in a bowl.

Once you have these ingredients, you can use the tuna and corn on your potato with butter to make a tuna potato!

Of course, you can also buy this item on the Grand Exchange, though they do cost upwards of 1000 coins, so it’s more cost-effective to make it yourself!

3. Basket of Strawberries

Best OSRS Food Basket of Strawberries

A basket of strawberries is, as the name suggests, a basket containing 1 to 5 strawberries that can be eaten individually.

When an individual strawberry is consumed, it heals 1 + 6% of the player’s maximum hitpoints.

This means that a full basket of strawberries can restore 30 hitpoints in total, making it one of the best food items in OSRS.

It is even fourth behind purple sweets, Saradomin brew, and the reward token in terms of hitpoints that can be held in one inventory slot.

To get this item, all you have to do is fill a basket with strawberries, which can be farmed using a level 31 farming skill.

Alternatively, they do sometimes appear as a 1/100 drop from gourmet implings located in Puro-Puro and Gielinor.

While not one of the rarest drops in OSRS, you’ll still have to get very lucky if you want to find this food as a drop.

Baskets of strawberries can also be bought from the grand exchange for around 800 coins, which can be worth it if you have a lot of money.

It’s worth keeping at least one of these in your inventory if you’re going to be dungeon diving or taking on other players.

2. Dark Crab

Best OSRS Food Dark Crab

Dark crabs are a members-only type of fish found in the Wilderness, and a fishing level of 85 is required to catch them with a lobster pot.

You will also need some dark crab bait, which can be dropped from monsters in the area or purchased at the Grand Exchange for around 3 coins.

Alternatively, you can buy raw dark crabs on Exchange for 900 coins if you can’t or don’t want to catch them yourself.

As a consumable, dark crabs restore 22 hitpoints, making them one of the most popular foods in the game.

However, in order to cook these crabs, players need a cooking level of 90, and even then, there is a chance to burn these crabs even at level 99.

If you’re going to cook dark crabs, it is recommended to use the Hosidius Kitchen since that adds a 5% increased chance of success.

That said, if you have the Cooking Cape, you can prevent dark crabs from burning 100%, no matter where you cook them.

While dark crab heals as much as tuna potatoes, it also weighs less, making it easier to carry around.

Like other foods, cooked dark crab can also be bought at the Grand Exchange for around 1000 coins each.

1. Anglerfish

OSRS Best Food Anglerfish

Taking our top spot is the anglerfish, which can be found at a spot south of Tynan’s Fishing Supplies in Port Piscarilius.

These fish require a level 82 in fishing to catch, and players must use a fishing rod and sandworms to lure them in.

What makes the anglerfish so exceptional is its ability to heal various levels of hitpoints.

The amount that they heal is dependent on the player’s hitpoints level, and at level 93 or above, it will heal 22 points.

However, anglerfish can also heal players more than their maximum hitpoints, up to a maximum of 121.

In order to cook anglerfish, players need a cooking level of 84, though this fish will always have a chance of burning on a fire or range.

While the Cooking Cape can prevent this 100% of the time, there is another piece of gear that can also be used.

With the Cooking Gauntlets, one of the best gloves in OSRS, and the Hosidious Kitchen, anglerfish can be stopped from burning at cooking level 93.

If you have also completed the elite Kourend & Kebos Diary, this can be lowered to level 88 with the gauntlets and the kitchen.

Of course, you can also buy cooked anglerfish at the Grand Exchange, but it won’t come cheap since it is such a good item.

Expect to pay upwards of 1,500 coins if you decide to buy pre-cooked anglerfish, as it is one of the most expensive food items in OSRS.

Summary

Food items can keep you alive during tough battles in Old School Runescape, but these are the ones you’ll want to stock up on.

While many of these foods will require you to have a fairly high cooking level, it is worth it for the number of hit points they restore.
