Stardew Valley has amassed a wide following of role-playing, simulation, and casual gamers alike since it was first released around 5 years ago. It has everything you need in a game that you can spend hundreds, if not thousands of hours in varied gameplay mechanics, lots of interesting side characters, and infinite replayability. There’s always something to do in this game– whether you like farming, romancing NPCs, or mining for precious gems, there’s bound to be something that’ll keep you occupied for days on end. And if you’re into fishing and completing quests, then we’ve got the perfect guide for you!
Our Squid Stardew Valley fishing guide will give you the most in-depth details on how to catch this elusive sea creature. Read on below for more.
SQUID STARDEW VALLEY: FISHING GUIDE
The Squid is a seasonal creature that can only be caught during Winter. It can be quite challenging to catch, with its availability confined to one season and only around 6 PM to 2 AM. It’s also only fishable from the ocean, so make sure not to waste your time on the rivers, lakes, or ponds around Pelican Town if you want to catch this!
Here’s a video where a Youtube gamer found a great spot at the beach to catch Squid:
You also find the Squid in trash cans around town, or if you manage to catch the Traveling Cart. You will have to shell out 240 – 1000g for the latter if you choose to buy it instead.
SQUID STARDEW VALLEY: USES
This would not be a Squid Stardew Valley fishing guide without a detailed list of its different uses in-game! From gifting to completing NPC quests for money or heart levels, the Squid is quite a useful catch for all types of players.
Gifting
Squids can be gifted to just about any NPC, but you have to be careful to find out who likes it. Below is a chart of gifting preferences for this creature:
Liked | Neutral | Disliked | Hated |
Elliot | Demetrius, Leo, Linus, Sebastian, Willy | Abigail, Alex, Caroline, Clint, Dwarf, Emily, George, Gus, Harvey, Jas, Jodi, Kent, Krobus, Leah, Lewis, Marnie, Maru, Penny, Robin, Sam, Sandy, Shane, Vincent, Wizard | Evelyn, Haley, Pam, Pierre |
If you do choose to gift the squid, make sure to confine it to NPCs who like or are neutral to it– or risk losing heart levels!
You can also randomly find quests at Pierre’s General Store when you check the “Help Wanted” board. Some of this will ask for Squid with a reward of money and friendship points, so make sure to take advantage of that. Willy can also ask you for it through mail, while Demetrius may ask you to catch one in exchange for money and the Farm Computer recipe.
Recipes
While the Squid can’t be used for Community Center bundles, it can instead be used in a variety of recipes for gifting and player consumption. Here’s are some recipes that ask for it:
- Fried Calamari (Squid, Wheat Flour, Oil)
- Maki Roll (Any Fish, Seaweed, Rice)
- Quality Fertilizer (Sap, Any Fish)
- Sashimi (Any Fish)
You can also use the Squid to create a Sailor Shirt through the Sewing Machine.
Fish Ponds
Lastly, the Squid can be bred in Fish Ponds at your farm. You can have it reproduce at a rate of every 3 days through this method. Placing Squids in fish ponds will produce Squid Ink instead of Roe, which you can sell, give to Elliot (who Loves it), or use in Recipes or the Pantry Bundle (Remixed) at the Community Center.
