The 10 Best Anime PS5 Games
What are the best PS5 anime games?
Anime is one of the most popular forms of entertainment in the world, so it should come as no surprise that games have been created to mimic its style.
On the PS5, in particular, anime games really come to life with high FPS rates and 4K graphics that look as crisp as any show.
We’ve decided to round up the best of these games to create the ultimate list so you can easily get your anime fix!
The 10 Best Anime PS5 Games
Each game on our list has been selected based on its gameplay, graphics, story, and reviews from other players.
We tried to find a little something for everyone, with games ranging from traditional fighters to turn-based RPGs!
So, take a break from that new series you’re watching and enjoy our list of the 10 best anime PS5 games:
10. Record Of Lodoss War – Deedlit In Wonder Labyrinth
Kicking off our list, we have Record of Lodoss War, a 2D Metroidvania-style action RPG based on a series of fantasy novels of the same name.
In this game, players control a high elf named Deedlit, who ends up in a labyrinth filled with friends and foes from her past.
There is a large emphasis on exploration, along with fighting minibosses and a series of major bosses throughout the story.
It’s a bit like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but with an elemental switching mechanic similar to Silhouette Mirage or Ikaruga.
Now, if you haven’t read any of this series’ material or played the previous games, some elements of the story may be lost to you.
However, this does little to take away from the engaging gameplay that is filled with interesting moments that will keep you playing until the end.
Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is very much akin to some of the best retro games of all time but with an anime style that’s emphasized by its gorgeous graphics.
9. Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles
Demon Slayer is one of the best fighting anime series to watch, and if you’re a fan, you’ll love The Hinokami Chronicles.
Based on the anime adaptation of the manga series, this game roughly follows the events of the first season of the series.
The gameplay revolves around Tanjiro Kamado as he joins the Demon Slayer Corps and fights back against various demons to try and save his sister, Nezuko.
While the events in the game are more fast-paced than they are in the anime, the general story is told through cutscenes and boss battles.
Players can also form teams of two in versus mode to face off against CPU opponents to see how long they can hold out.
That said, we would recommend checking out the anime first before playing this game if you haven’t already.
Although it tells roughly the same story, it is much more enjoyable once you have a connection to the characters and know what’s going on!
Demon Slayer – The Hinokami Chronicles has already sold over 3 million copies, and it certainly stands out as one of the best anime games on the PS5.
8. Neo: The World Ends With You
Neo: The World Ends With You is an action RPG developed by Square Enix, and it serves as a sequel to the 2007 game.
Unlike the first World Ends With You game, Neo has 3D graphics and a new cast of characters playing the Reapers Game.
The Reapers Game is a competition for the recently deceased which forces players to battle other teams for their survival.
During combat, players can control multiple characters at once and attack opponents using psychic abilities generated from items known as pins.
Players can collect over 300 pins and use them to create unique psychic combinations that can be used in battle.
We especially like that the game explains the story well enough that it’s easy to understand what’s going on even if you’ve never played the first game.
The writing and character design are also incredibly well-done, so it really feels like you’re inside an anime while playing this game!
7. Scarlet Nexus
This action RPG has some stunning graphics, and playing it is just as entertaining as watching the best sci-fi anime series ever released.
In this game, players can choose to play as either Kasane or Yuito, two psionics with powerful psychokinetic abilities.
However, you will have to complete both of their stories if you want to unlock all of the mysteries in this brainpunk world.
Like Resident Evil 2, where players can choose between Leon and Claire, both of these characters will provide a different gameplay experience that is interwoven with the other.
We really love this dual-story experience as it gives you a good reason to replay the game to see things from a whole new perspective.
The combat is also extremely fun, and the psycho-kinetic abilities allow you to throw pieces of the environment at your enemies.
Like many great anime series, the story is also extremely well-written, and it’s filled with plot twists that keep you wondering how it’s going to end!
6. Genshin Impact
Along with being one of the best PS5 RPG games, Genshin Impact is an amazing anime game set in a beautiful open world.
Genshin Impact is filled with action-based combat that uses elemental magic while allowing players to switch between party members.
The main story follows an interdimensional traveler who is separated from their twin at the start of the game.
Players must then venture across the world of Teyvat in search of their missing sibling while also unraveling the dark mysteries of the land.
While the combat systems in this game are incredibly fun and rewarding, what we really love is the exploration.
There is always something new to find in the world if you’re willing to spend time looking around in areas where the main story doesn’t direct you.
However, dotted across this world are many different bosses and challenges that you’ll have to overcome if you want to gain the most valuable resources!
Genshin Impact is a beautiful video game that is perfect for anime fans looking for an epic adventure to rival any action series!
5. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
The most recent entry in the Storm series, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, is one of the best anime-fighting games on the PS5.
This game follows the story of some of the best Naruto characters, including Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, as they deal with a war between the shinobi and the Akatsuki.
While the gameplay is similar to others in the series, wall-running, a feature that’s been missing since the original game, has been brought back.
This allows players to battle on the side of walls in any arena that they’re in, which is a really fun inclusion.
There are also 106 fighters from the Naruto universe, including variants, that players can choose from, the largest roster in the series’ history.
Playing this game is just as fun as watching the anime, in our opinion, and the graphics are absolutely stunning.
Plus, now is a great time to jump into Ninja Storm 4 as Naruto x Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is slated to release sometime in 2023!
4. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
The Final Fantasy VII Remake is a modern masterpiece, and Intergrade serves as an enhanced version of the game with an extra side story to experience.
This version of the game also comes with the DLC expansion Episode Intermission, which tells the story of Yuffie Kisaragi, a ninja from Wutai.
It also allows players to use turn-based controls while in normal difficulty mode, as well as a photo mode to capture special moments.
While much of the story remains the same as the original, this game isn’t just a simple remaster, and some elements and story points have been completely redone.
The goal was to make this game both new and nostalgic for those who had played the original while still being approachable for those new to the series.
All of the characters have also been overhauled, and previously minor characters have had their roles expanded to give players a greater chance of connecting with them.
Suffice it to say this game is absolutely gorgeous, and the storytelling is some of the best of any in the franchise.
Even if you have never played a Final Fantasy game before, this remake is extremely enjoyable, and it’s easy enough to follow along and learn the plot as you play!
3. Tales Of Arise
Tales of Arise is another absolutely gorgeous game that uses an art style inspired by watercolor painting and anime.
The 17th installment in the Tales series, this action RPG follows two characters, one from the world of Dahna and the other from the world of Rena.
Together they must work together to end the Renans’ oppression of the people of Dahna, an endeavor that proves to be anything but easy.
In this game, players get to explore both worlds and learn more about their societies and how they function.
The combat system in Tales of Arise has been completely overhauled, and let us tell you, it feels amazing.
Now, players can actually chain powerful attacks with party members and create extremely devastating combos.
Outside of combat, this game is very dialogue heavy, so much so that it really feels like you can kick back and watch it like any anime series.
What we really love about this game is that you don’t have to have played the previous 16 games to understand what’s going on.
The plot is solid, and it’s easy to follow if you’re paying attention. Plus, once the combat starts, you will never want to put this game down!
2. Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal is one of the best single-player PS5 games, and it is the perfect video game for anyone who loves anime.
Set in modern-day Tokyo, this game follows the story of a high-school transfer student, Joker, as he and other students acquire special abilities.
With their new powers, these students form the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, a vigilante group that explores the multiverse and steals malevolent intent from the hearts of adults.
In this game, you can explore colorful Tokyo, unlock new personas, and work towards discovering a variety of alternate endings.
For anime fans who prefer subtitles to dubs, you can also choose between Japanese and English voiceovers!
While all of the Persona games are a must-play, in our opinion, Person 5 Royal is by far one of the best in the series.
With its unique story, unforgettable characters, and engaging turn-based combat, it is hard not to immediately fall in love with this game when you start playing.
1. Guilty Gear Strive
Taking our number one spot is Guilt Gear Strive, a hybrid 2D/3D anime fighting game that is simply amazing in every aspect.
Not only is this one of the best fighting games on the PS5, but the graphics look like they were pulled directly from a big-budget anime series.
Intended to be a complete reconstruction of the series, this game overhauls a lot of the mechanics found in previous Guilty Gear titles.
It also introduces a feature called Wall Break, which allows the stage to transition when combos are initiated and a character is in the corner of an arena.
Like many high-stakes anime games, the fate of the universe is at stake in Strive, and it’s up to players to sort everything out.
In the base game, there is a starting roster of 15 playable characters, with another nine being added via DLC Season Passes.
Guilty Gear Strive has challenging combat, but instead of being frustrating, it is incredibly smooth and rewarding even when you don’t get it on the first try.
It has certainly set a high bar for all future anime games on the PS5, especially anime fighting games, thanks to its visuals, gameplay, and overall design.
Summary
