It’s the eighth major installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and was released on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014. 

This time around, the story is set in Paris, France, during the French Revolution. 

The single-player story follows Arno Victor Dorian on his quest to spread the truth about the real cause and power behind the Revolution. 

Unity stays true to the roots of the franchise and maintains its third-person perspective and open-world environment; and allows for up to four players to engage in multiplayer exploration. 

By the end of 2014, Ubisoft announced that they’d shipped over 10 million copies of the game, and it was met with positive reviews from critics overall. 

 

9. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is the ninth-best Assassin’s Creed game of all time. 

The action-adventure video game was released on October 23, 2015, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; followed shortly after for Microsoft Windows. It was developed by Ubisoft Quebec and published by Ubisoft. 

The story is set in Victorian-era London and follows two Assassin’s, Jacob and Evie Frye.

They try to take back the city from the Templars but are met with many challenges and struggles. 

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is played from a third-person perspective, and players have complete free roam of its open-world design. 

Upon release, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate debuted at number one in the UK game charts and received mixed reviews from several critics worldwide.

The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft in April 2008. 

The general premise of the game follows the struggle between the Assassins and the Templer, who both desire peace, but have a completely different opinion on how to obtain it. 

The action-adventure video game received reasonably positive reviews upon release and won several industry awards at E3 in 2006.  

Critics praised the game’s visuals, storytelling, art design, and originality. 

 

7. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

It’s the eleventh primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the twenty-first game overall. 

This time around, the game is set in the year 431 BCE and details the mythological history of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. 

You can decide to control either a male or female mercenary who has to fight for both sides to try and unite their family. 

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4 on October 5, 2018; and was met with generally positive reviews overall. 

Since its release, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has been nominated for multiple industry awards and picked up “Best Artistic Design” at the 2018 Titanium Awards. 

Unfortunately, gaming fans felt that Odyssey was nothing like the Assassin’s Creed they’d grown to know and love. It didn’t really feel like a true Assassin’s Creed game, which is why it’s only at 7th on this list.

 

6. Assassin’s Creed III

Assassin’s Creed III was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and Microsoft Windows in 2012. 

It’s the fifth major installment in the series and continues the feud between the Assassins and Templars.

However, in this installment, protagonist Desmond Miles’s half brother, Ratonhnhaké:ton, or Connor for short; tries to defeat the Templars to gain power over the Colonies, during and after the American Revolution. 

Like the previous titles in the series, Assassin’s Creed III is set in an open world environment and presented from the third-person perspective. Single-player and multiplayer modes are available in this installment. 

The game received positive reviews from critics and is considered a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies worldwide. 

It was nominated for several industry awards and took home the game of the Year award from Game Trailer in 2012.

It continues with the historical struggle between the Assassins and Templars, but this time; the series protagonist, Desmond Miles, tries to find a way to relive the memories of his ancestors to avert the coming apocalypse. 

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is set in an open world environment and played in a third-person perspective, in single or multiplayer mode. 

Overall, Revelations received positive reviews from critics and was praised for its detailed environments, well-written protagonists and plot.

A Ubisoft creation and the successor to 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate; it was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows and the PlayStation 4 in October 2017. 

The game is set in Ancient Egypt toward the end of the Ptolemaic period and presents some of the secret fictional histories of real-world events.

It follows Bayek, a Medjay, or elite Egyptian warrior, on his quest to put an end to the conflict between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Order of the Ancients. 

Critics gave praise to the storyline, characters, voice acting, and immersive Egyptian world. 

Assassin’s Creed Origins was nominated for several industry awards and won “Best Console Game” (PlayStation 4) at Gamescom 2017 and “Outstanding Visual Effects in a Real-time Project” in 2018 at the 16th Visual Effects Society Awards.

It follows Edward Kenway, a Welsh pirate and grandfather of Assassin’s Creed III protagonists Ratonhnhaké: ton and Heytham Kenway, and focuses on the ship-based exploration of the open-world map. 

It’s played from a third-person perspective and spans the majority of the West Indies, including Havana, Nassau, and Kingston. 

Upon release, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag received positive reviews from critics and has since sold over fifteen million copies to date. It was one of the best-selling games of 2013.

The story is set in the 21st century and follows the usual protagonist, Desmond Miles, as he relives memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

The game takes place during the Renaissance in Italy amid the 15th and early 16th centuries. It allows players to explore Florence, Tuscany, Venice, and Forli, while guiding Ezio on his quest for vengeance. 

Assassin’ Creed II is considered by many to be one of the best video games ever made, which can be backed up by an impressive nine million copies sold worldwide since its release. 

In 2009, it received Game of the Year from GamePro, Eurogamer, and The New York Times.
