The Best Bear Pokemon

What are the best bear Pokémon?

What do you get when you mix bears with Pokémon? A whole lot of awesome!

Like their real-life counterparts, bear Pokémon are both adorable but fearsome, and they should have a permanent spot on any team.

Today, we’re rounding up the best bear Pokémon that you can find in the series so you can go catch them for yourself!

The 10 Best Bear Pokémon

Each of the Pokémon on this list has been chosen based on their bear-like features and useful abilities.

These creatures are both iconic and incredibly useful in battle, making them worth picking up if you can!

So, if you’re ready to catch’em all, here’s our list of the 10 best bear Pokémon of all time:

10. Pancham

Best Bear Pokemon Pancham

Up first, we have Pancham, a fighting type Pokémon that looks like a small panda bear chewing on a leaf.

Pancham was introduced in Generation VI, and it boasts a solid attack stat of 82 and a defense stat of 62.

To use Pancham effectively, you’ll want to know fighting type Pokémon weaknesses and resistances before starting combat.

For instance, this bear Pokémon is best used against rock, bug, and dark type Pokémon, as it is resistant to their moves.

These playful Pokémon can be evolved into Pangoro starting at level 32, but we’ll cover more about that below.

This adorable panda bear Pokémon is definitely worth keeping an eye out for because it’s as adorable as it is effective!

Although not available in the most recent game in the series, this Pokémon can still be found in Sword and Shield.

Additionally, Pancham is a popular choice in Sun and Moon and its debut games, X and Y where this Pokémon really shines.

9. Teddiursa

Best Bear Pokemon Teddiursa

Teddiursa has been around since Generation II, with Pokémon Gold and Silver, and later Pokémon Crystal which combined the two.

This bipedal Pokémon looks like a small orange teddy bear with paws covered in honey that it is often seen licking.

As a normal type Pokémon, Teddiursa has an attack stat of 80 and 50 in special attack, defense, and standard defense.

It is weak to other fighting types but immune to ghost types, making it a good counter to them.

Starting at level 30, this little bear Pokémon can be evolved into Ursaring, who we’ll talk about further down.

However, even in its base form, this Pokémon is quite formidable and wholly adorable which is why fans absolutely love it.

While this Pokémon first appeared in Gen II, it can be found in many games in the series, including Scarlet, Violet, and Legends: Arceus.

If you can find one of these Pokémon out in the wild, you definitely won’t want to pass it up, as it is worth spending a Pokéball on!

8. Kubfu

Best Bear Pokemon Kubfu

This fighting type Pokémon made its first appearance in Generation VIII with Sword and Shield, two of the newest games in the series.

Resembling some of the best dog Pokémon of all time, Kubfu looks like a mix between a husky and a teddy bear.

That is to say, it looks absolutely adorable, and we love having Kubfu on our team any chance we get.

Kubfu has a very high attack stat of 90, followed by a speed of 72, which makes it very formidable in combat.

While these Pokémon are weak to flying, psychic, and fairy-type attacks, they are resistant to rock, bug, and dark types.

This makes them useful when dealing with otherwise heavy-hitting Pokémon like Gigalith and Rockruff, two rock-type Pokémon.

Although this bear-like Pokémon is only available in Pokémon Sword and Shield, we hope to see more of it in future games.

Kubfu definitely stands out as a great fighter, and we wish it had been available in Scarlet and Violet because it is so awesome!

7. Snorlax

Best Bear Pokemon Snorlax

Snorlax is an absolute classic Pokémon who first appeared in Pokémon Generation I in Red, Blue, and Green.

Known as the Sleeping Pokémon, Snorlax is a large mammalian creature with a dark green body and cream-colored face and belly.

Despite being known for sleeping, the size of this Pokémon makes it intimidating, especially when gigantamaxed.

As a normal type Pokémon, Snorlax has a ton of HP, clocking in with 160 hitpoints total, which makes it hard to knockout.

It also has a strong attack stat and special defense stat of 110, though it lacks speed, meaning it may not get the first hit.

Snorlax is a great Pokémon for fighting ghost types as he can exploit ghost-type strengths and weaknesses, being immune to their attacks.

While this Pokémon has no resistances, its strong defense and high health make it capable of taking on most other Pokémon.

That said, it is weak against fighting types, so you’ll want to keep that in mind during battles so you don’t get caught off guard.

Although Snorlax isn’t available in Scarlet and Violet, it can be found in Sword and Shield, as well as Legends: Arceus.

6. Beartic

Best Bear Pokemon Beartic

Up next, we have Beartic, Pokémon that highly resemble large, dangerous polar bears that you don’t want to mess with!

As the evolved form of Cubchoo, a cute bear cub Pokémon, Beartic packs quite the punch in battle!

These ice-type Pokémon were introduced in Generation V with Pokémon Black and White and have been around ever since.

This bear-like Pokémon is covered in white fur with ice forming a type of pseudo-beard around its chin.

As an ice type, Beartic is resistant to ice attacks but weak to fighting, rock, steel, and fire, so keep that in mind before battling.

However, as of Gen VII, this Pokémon has a very high attack stat of 130, making it very powerful to have on your team.

This stat has been increased from previous generations where it was only 110, which is still significant.

While Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been criticized for performance issues, Beartic really shines in these games.

We definitely recommend catching one of these bear Pokémon on your next playthrough because they’re wholly worth it!

5. Pangoro

Best Bear Pokemon Pangoro

The evolved form of Pancham, Pangoro, is a hulking panda bear Pokémon who always looks ready to brawl.

Pangoro evolves from Pancham at level 32 if you have a dark type Pokémon in your party at the time.

Standing on two legs, this Pokémon towers over most others on the battlefield and boasts an attack stat of 124.

While it isn’t very fast, having a speed stat of only 58, once this Pokémon gets a hit in, it can do a lot of damage.

As a dual fighting/dark type Pokémon, Pangoro has a broad move set and is capable of learning moves like Hammar Arm and Crunch.

If you turn this Pokémon loose on rock or ghost-types, it can be incredibly effective in combat!

This Pokémon can be especially good at exploiting rock-type strengths and weaknesses if set up correctly.

Although not available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, we highly recommend using Pangoro in Sword and Shield.

Not only is this Pokémon highly skilled, but it looks completely awesome, and that gets bonus points from us!

4. Ursaring

Best Bear Pokemon Ursaring

This normal type Pokémon is the evolved form of Teddiursa, and it looks much more intimidating!

Like a towering brown bear, this Pokémon sports a yellow circle on its belly and a perpetual look of anger.

If it is exposed to a peat block in Hisui during a full moon, this Pokémon can turn into Ursaluna, a ground/normal type.

In the form of Ursaluna, this Pokémon looks like a mix between a bear and an armadillo, which is still surprisingly cute.

It also gains more HP, more attack, and greater defense at the cost of speed, though this is a decent trade-off.

However, without this evolution, Ursaring boasts an impressive attack stat of 130, making it a heavy hitter.

Its special attack and defensive skills are also set at 75, making it pretty good across the board.

While it does have a fairly slow speed of only 55, when it gets a hit in, it can do a lot of damage.

Whether you use this Pokémon in Gold and Silver or Scarlet and Violet, it is one of the best bear Pokémon you can find!

3. Stufful

Best Bear Pokemon Stufful

Stufful is possibly one of the cutest teddy bear Pokémon in the entire franchise, and it has been around since Gen VII.

First appearing in Pokémon Sun and Moon, Stufful is a dual-type normal/fighting type with a lot of power.

This small pink and white Pokémon strongly resembles a bear cub, and it always seems to be smiling.

Its good nature and cute fluffy appearance have quickly made it one of the most recognizable bear Pokémon in the series.

Despite its small size, Stufful has a solid set of base stats, including a 75 attack stat and 70 HP.

Stufful is also resistant to rock, bug, and dark-type Pokémon, as well as resistant to ghost-type attacks.

While it is weak against fighting, flying, psychic, and fairy types, when used correctly, Stufful can be very effective.

This Pokémon quickly became a fan favorite in Sun and Moon, and it has since come to Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Although Stufful is adorable, it is capable of evolving into a creature that is arguably even more cute.

Starting at level 27, this Pokémon can change into Bewear, who takes our number two spot below!

2. Bewear

Best Bear Pokemon Bewear

Bewear is the evolved form of Stufful, and he remains a normal/fighting type Pokémon.

Having gotten his start in one of the best Pokémon games of all time, Bewear quickly won over players.

Resembling a large black and pink bear with white ears, this Pokémon kind of looks like it’s wearing an adorable headband.

While it appears adorable and friendly, it is considered one of the most dangerous Pokémon you can approach.

Bewear boasts an impressive attack stat of 125 and 120 HP that makes it very hard-hitting and durable.

Although it isn’t very fast, it can take hits from most other Pokémon before dishing out a load of pain during battle!

That said, this Pokémon is known for showing affection by giving rather forceful hugs, which we think is just precious.

Unfortunately, these hugs are sometimes forceful enough to crush bones, and many trainers have been killed by them.

So, while it may be tempting, you may want to be cautious before going in for a bear hug with this adorable creature!

1. Urshifu

Best Bear Pokemon Urshifu

Taking our number one spot is Urshiful, a legendary fighting type Pokémon that was introduced in Gen VIII.

This Pokémon resembles a large bipedal bear with a muscular build and large paws for striking enemies.

Urshifu evolves from Kubfu when shown a scroll in the Towers of the Twin Fists or when exposed to a Scroll of Waters or Scroll of Darkness.

Depending on the scroll it was exposed to, Urshifu can gain two different secondary types, either water or dark.

In its single strike style, it is a fighting/dark type, and in its rapid strike style, it is a fighting/water type.

Regardless of its type, this Pokémon has some impressive stats that remain the same in either form which makes choosing one easier.

Urshifu has a very high attack stat of 130, along with defense and HP stats of 100, making it very formidable.

This Pokémon is also incredibly fast, with a speed stat of 97, allowing it to often get the first move in during battle.

In its single-strike form, Urshifu is immune to psychic types and resistant to rock, ghost, and dark-type attacks.

However, it is weak against fighting, flying, and fairy-type attacks, making it ineffective against them and prone to taking more damage.

Similarly, in its rapid strike form, this Pokémon is resistant to rock, bug, steel, fire, water, ice, and dark-type attacks.

It is likewise weak against flying, grass, electric, psychic, and fairy-type attacks, so you’ll need to keep that in mind during battles.

Both of these variants have the potential to be incredibly powerful when used correctly, which has helped make this bear Pokémon popular.

If you have the Sword and Shield expansion pass, we highly recommend evolving this Pokémon for yourself because it’s incredibly powerful!
