Ghost of Tsushima in an upcoming action-adventure game, developed by Sucker Punch Productions. The game will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, and be available only on PlayStation.

Ghost of Tsushima is set in the 1270’s, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. It follows Jin Sakai, who is one of the last Samurai on Tsushima Island. Tsushima is an open world split into various regions; which help capture the raw beauty of Japan with ancient forests, mountainsides, vast countrysides, temples, shrines, and villages.

The game is set for release on the 26th June 2020 for PlayStation 4. It’s likely we’ll also see a re-release for PS5 as well.

The Storyline

Ghost of Tsushima’s protagonist is Jin Sakai, one of the last Samurai in Japan. The Mongol empire has already conquered many countries in their reign, and the Japan mainland is their next target. Sakai is the only person left to stop the invasion, and save the Japan mainland before it also succumbs to devastation.

All the other Samurai have been defeated, and it’s up to Jin to develop a new fighting style; the way of the Ghost, which will help him overcome the odds and liberate Japan.

Players will be able to use stealth to their advantage, and also battle enemies with weapons such as katanas. You can also engage in one-on-one duals.

The beautiful and enriching open world of Tsushima Island can be travelled on foot or by horse, and you’ll also have a grapple-hook like item at your disposal should you need to climb unreachable areas.

Like most open world games, there’ll be side quests available along the way, given to you from the likes of villagers you discover when roaming the world.

Despite what the plot may explain, you won’t be alone. Jin Sakai will be able to recruit allies throughout the game; such as the female archer Masako, who you can see in the trailer below.

Nate Fox has this to say about Tsushima Island’s setting and development:

“We’re trying hard to transport people to 1274 Japan. We’re inspired by history, but we’re not building it back stone by stone. We’re not trying to rebuild Tsushima island. Our protagonist is a work of fiction. We actually thought about using some historical figures, and we asked some people who are more culturally aware than us and they said that it would be insensitive, so we didn’t do it.”

Will There Be Any Future DLC Content?

Unfortunately, we don’t have any news just yet as to whether Sucker Punch have plans to release additional DLC content for the game in the future. We won’t rule it out just yet, though.

Will There Be A Co-Op/Multiplayer?

Ghost of Tsushima is likely to be a solely single player game. There was no mentions from Sony about a multiplayer option, so it looks like they’ve put everything into the single player experience.

Which Platforms Will Ghost of Tsushima Be Released on?

Ghost of Tsushima is a Sony Interactive Entertainment production, and therefore it will only be released on PlayStation 4, and the possibility of PlayStation 5 when it’s released.

When Will Ghost of Tsushima Be Released?
