You can even invite your friends to fight with you in cooperative multiplayer.

Risk of Rain 2 takes everything players loved in the first title and improves it. The game jumped from a 2D to a 3D environment, making for a more immersive gaming experience. Plus, levels present more of a challenge with stronger enemies and a larger game area.

To progress through each level, you’ll need a competent team.

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List

There are currently 12 playable characters in the game.

Known as Survivors, each character has a unique set of skills that they can use to plow through monsters. In this Risk of Rain 2 Tier List, we’re categorizing each character based on their overall effectiveness in battle.

Survivors in S-Tier are the best options for any situation.

On the other hand, those in D-Tier have ineffective skillsets and aren’t worth investing in.

S-Tier

  • Bandit
  • Captain
  • Heretic
  • Loader

A-Tier

  • Artificer
  • Huntress
  • Mercenary
  • MUL-T

B-Tier

  • Engineer
  • REX

C-Tier

D-Tier

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List: S-Tier

Here’s our S-Tier for Risk of Rain 2:

Bandit

Bandit is one of the most versatile Survivors in the current meta. His skills allow him to execute stealthy attacks with high damage potential.

However, Bandit has a relatively high skill ceiling, so it may take some time to master his character’s quirks.

Captain

Captain is one of the best damage dealers in the game. His shotgun’s capabilities allow him to be deadly at both close and long-range.

Captain also has some crowd control skills that you can pull out when you’re in a pinch.

Loader

Loader is another great damage dealer. Though her damage potential isn’t as high as Captain’s, she more than makes up for it in her mobility.

She can pull enemies towards her or pull herself to a larger target, making her one of the best Survivors for navigating through a crowded level.

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List: A-Tier

Here’s our A-Tier for Risk of Rain 2:

Artificer

Artificer is yet another huge damage dealer. Her mage-like abilities let her attack enemies from afar and deal sustained damage.

But the reason why she’s in A-Tier is that your run with her greatly depends on the items that you find.

Without items like the Backup Magazine, Brainstalks, or a Bandolier, you likely won’t maximize her damage output.

Heretic

Heretic is a secret playable character in Risk of Rain 2.

She has the highest base health, damage, and speed in the entire Survivor roster, making her extremely useful in any situation. The only catch is her negative health regeneration. This means she loses health over time.

Huntress

Huntress’s skills are a mix of evasion tactics and damage-focused abilities.

She can zip past enemies unscathed then use AoE skills to plow down hordes of enemies. The reason why she isn’t in the top tier is that her character build doesn’t have as much damage potential as the Survivors in S-Tier.

Mercenary

Mercenary is a melee-based Survivor whose skills focus on close-range combat.

He has high damage potential and excellent mobility. However, he has a high skill ceiling, so players who don’t know what they’re doing could very quickly bring their team down.

MUL-T

MUL-T is Risk of Rain 2’s resident tank.

He has the highest base HP and defense stat in the game, so players don’t need to worry much about evading attacks.

But the tradeoff is that he doesn’t have very high damage potential.

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List: B-Tier

Here’s our B-Tier for Risk of Rain 2:

Engineer

Engineer players need to be more strategic in their playstyle.

His skills involve placing turrets around the map and having them deal damage for him. He can also release a shield that protects him from enemy attacks.

That said, his shields can easily be destroyed by enemies late-game, so players need to master turret placement if they want to maximize their damage output.

REX

REX is a high-risk, high reward type of Survivor because he relies on consuming his own HP to deal massive damage. This makes him one of the most difficult characters to maneuver in the game. Unless players have a good grasp of his skillset, they’ll most likely bring the entire team down.

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List: C-Tier

Here’s our C-Tier for Risk of Rain 2:

Acrid

Acrid is another melee-based character that utilizes poison to continuously deal damage.

It also has ranged attacks that can deal damage and inflict status effects. However, this is what puts Acrid so low on the list.

Because it isn’t as mobile as other Survivors, it’s difficult to switch between melee and ranged attack styles.

Risk of Rain 2 Tier List: D-Tier

Here’s our D-Tier for Risk of Rain 2:

Commando

Commando is your starting character, so it isn’t a surprise to see him in the lowest tier.

His playstyle is painfully basic, with players doing nothing more than shooting, dodging, then shooting again.

His skills are lackluster as well, featuring simple gun-based attacks that deal decent damage.

Summary

Risk of Rain 2 is a fun cooperative shooter with a colorful world and fast-paced gameplay.

Much like Skullgirls, it has a vibrant cast of characters with distinct designs and personalities.

However, as shown by our Risk of Rain 2 Tier List, not all Survivors are created equal. Make sure to invest in the right ones if you want to power through the game’s monster-infested levels.
