Along with Fire and Water, the Grass-type is one of the three starter types of Pokémon.
Statistically, Grass is one of the weakest Pokémon types, with many other types resistant to Grass-specific moves.
Many Grass-type Pokémon are dual-type along with psychic. This combination is one of the weakest dual-type Pokémon.
There are a total of 138 Grass-type Pokémon and we have created a list that shows the top 25 strongest Grass Pokémon of all time.

This list is made from the base stats of each Pokémon and is selected from each Grass-Pokémon individually, not taking into account their previous forms or evolutions.
These are the 25 strongest Grass-type Pokémon:
25. Ferrothorn
Base Stat: 489
First up is Ferrothorn which is a grass/steel Pokémon that was introduced in Generation V. It evolves from Ferroseed at level 40.
Ferrothorn has a 50% male, 50% female gender split and a catch rate of 20.1%.
Strengths include its defence, with base stats of 131 and 116 for Defence and Special Defence respectively.
24. Vileplume
Base Stat: 490
Vileplume is the evolution of Gloom when exposed to a leaf stone.
Introduced in Generation I, the grass/poison Pokémon is one of the final forms of Oddish (with Bellossom being the other one).
Vileplume possesses a flower on the top of its head that is said the petals are almost too heavy for the Pokémon to support.
One of Vileplume’s abilities is Chlorophyll which doubles its speed when in sunlight.
23. Victreebel
Base Stat: 490
Next on the list is Victreebel who is a grass/poison dual-type Pokémon that evolves from Weepinbell when exposed to a leaf stone.
Introduced in Generation I, it is also the final form of Bellsprout.
Victreebel also possesses the Chlorophyll ability like Vileplume, plus the Gluttony ability that makes them eat berries to restore health when at 50% hp or lower (normally 25%).
22. Bellossom
Base Stat: 490
The other final form of Oddish, Bellossom was introduced in Generation II and is also the evolution of Gloom when exposed to the Sun Stone.
Bellossom resembles a hula dancer and is often seen singing and dancing.
This Grass Pokémon possesses the ‘Healer’ ability that has a 30% chance of curing an adjacent status condition.
21. Simisage
Base Stat: 498
Simisage was introduced in Generation V and is the evolution of Pansage when exposed to a leaf stone.
The simian Pokémon has an 87.5% male, 12.5% female gender split and also possesses the Gluttony ability.
Simisage also has the ‘Overgrow’ ability that increases the power of grass moves by 50% when the opponent has less than 1/3 of its HP.
20. Tsareena
Base Stat: 510
Next up is Tsareena who was introduced in Generation VII.
The Grass Pokémon evolves from Steenee and is the final form of Bounsweet.
The female, plant-like Pokémon possesses the ‘Sweet Veil’ ability which prevents them from falling asleep during battle.
Strengths of Tsareena include its attack, with a base stat of 120. However, its special attack scores only 50.
19. Roserade
Base Stat: 515
Roserade is a grass/poison Pokémon that was introduced in Generation IV.
It evolves from Roselia when being exposed to a Shiny Stone and is the final form of Budew.
The bipedal Pokémon has hair made up of white rose petals along with a leaf-style green cape.
One of Roserade’s abilities is ‘Poison Point’ in which there is a 30% chance that the opponent will be poisoned when hit.

18th place is Meganium who evolves from Bayleef at level 32 and is the final form of Chikorita.
Introduced in Generation II, the grass Pokémon resembles a sauropod dinosaur.
Strengths of Meganium include its defence, with a base stat of 100 for both its Defence and Special Defence.
It is said that Meganium’s flower gives off a scent that relaxes the opponent and reduces their fighting spirit.
17. Torterra
Base Stat: 525
Torterra is a dual-type grass/ground Pokémon that was introduced in Generation IV.
It is the evolution of Grotle at level 32 and the final form of Turtwig.
Torterra has a bulky build and has the resemblance of a tortoise with a large shell that has a tree on top for protection.
They possess the ‘Shell Armour’ ability which prevents them from receiving a critical hit when one usually lands.
16. Leafeon
Base Stat: 525
Introduced in Generation IV, Leafeon is one of the 8 evolutions of Eevee, which occurs near a Moss Rock (Generations IV-VII) or exposed to a leaf stone (Generation VIII).
Leafeon is strong defensively with a base stat of 130 for Defence.
They also possess the ‘Leaf Guard’ and ‘Chlorophyll’ abilities that strengthen their defensive ability.
15. Serperior

Next on the list is Serperior who was introduced in Generation V.
The grass Pokémon evolves from Servine at level 36 and is the final form of Snivy.
The serpentine-like Pokémon is predominately Male (87.5%) and also has the ‘Overgrow’ ability. One of Serperior’s strengths is its speed with a base stat of 113.
14. Exeggutor

Brought in Generation I, Exeggutor is a dual-type grass/psychic Pokémon that evolves from Exeggcute when exposed to a leaf stone.
They also have a grass/dragon type regional form in Alola with the same overall Base Stat.
The tall bipedal Pokémon has the resemblance of a palm tree with 3 heads.
Abilities include Chlorophyll and ‘Harvest’ which gives them a 50% chance of a used Berry being restored.
13. Chesnaught
Base Stat: 530
Chesnaught is a grass/fighting Pokémon that was introduced in Generation VI.
It is the evolution of Quilladin starting at level 36 and is the final form of Chespin.
Chesnaught has the capability to protect its allies with the use of its own body.
They possess the ‘Bulletproof’ ability (Chespins’s signature) which means they are not affected by ball and bomb moves.
12. Decidueye
Base Stat: 530
Next on the list is Decidueye who is a dual-type grass/ghost Pokémon who was introduced in Generation VII.
They are the final form Rowlet, evolving from Dartrix at level 34.
Decidueye has the appearance of an owl with an orange mask covering the face.
They are an all-round Pokémon although has a low base stat of 70 for speed. They are immune to all normal and fighting Pokémon.
11. Rillaboom

Rillaboom is the evolution of Thwackey at level 35 and is the final form of Grookey.
Introduced in Generation VIII, the grass-Pokémon also has a Gigantamax form that was brought in during The Isle of Armor.
The gorilla-like Pokémon also has the Overgrow ability as well as the ‘Grassy Surge’ ability that creates the effect of the move ‘Grassy Terrain’ when it enters battle.
10. GoGoat
Base Stat: 531
Making the top 10 is GoGoat who is the evolution of Skiddo starting at level 32.
Introduced in Generation VI, this grass-type Pokémon has the resemblance of a goat and is 50% male and 50% female.
Gogoat has the ‘Sap Sipper’ ability which allows them to avoid any damage from grass-type moves and increases their attack by one stage.
9. Tangrowth
Base Stat: 535
Tangrowth was introduced in Generation IV and evolves from Tangela when levelling up while having an ancient power.
They are large Pokémon coated in blue vines.
They are an all-round Pokémon in terms of their base stats, although is slow with a base stat of 50.
Tangrowth also has the Chlorophyll (or Leaf Guard) ability.
8. Tapu Bulu

Tapu Bulu is a Legendary grass/fairy dual-type Pokémon that was brought in during Generation VII.
They don’t evolve into or from another Pokémon and are the guardian deity of Ula’ula island.
The genderless Pokémon has a strong base stat of 130 for its attack and also possesses the ‘Grassy Surge’ ability.
Tapu Bulu is also immune to any dragon Pokémon.
7. Kartana
Base Stat: 580
Next is Kartana who is one of the Ultra beasts known by the code name UB-04 Blade.
Introduced in Generation VII, they are grass/steel Pokémon that don’t evolve into or from anything.
Kartana resembles the body shape of an origami human, with a weight of only 0.1kg.
They have a very high attacking base stat of 181 and are immune to all poison Pokémon.
6. Virizion
Base Stat: 580
Virizion is one of the 4 members of the Swords of Justice (Coballon, Terrakion and Keldeo being the others).
The grass/fighting legendary Pokémon was introduced in Generation V and doesn’t evolve into or from anything.
Virizion has head sprouts that are very sharp and can easily cut opponents during battle.

3. Shaymin (Sky Forme)

Shaymin has a second form known as its ‘Sky forme’, which is activated when using a Gracidea flower.
The Sky Forme is a grass/flying dual-type Pokémon that was introduced 4 months after the Land Forme was brought in.
The sky forme is quicker with a base stat of 127, but weaker defensively with stats of 75 for both Defence and its Special Defence.
They also have the ‘Serene Grace’ ability which doubles the likelihood of a certain move having an additional effect.
2. Venasaur (Mega)

Just missing out on the top spot is Venasaur who is a grass/poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I.
It is the evolution of Ivysaur at level 32 and the final form of one of the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur.
They can also mega evolve into Mega Venusaur when using the Venusaurite.
Venasaur is the official game mascot of the game Pokémon Green and LeafGreen.
They have big increases in their base stats, especially in their Attack, Defence, Special Attack and Special Defence.
