Electric-Type Pokémon Weaknesses & Resistances
Electric-type Pokémon are some of the most sought-after, with the most famous electric Pokémon, Pikachu, being the game’s mascot.
This type of Pokémon has very few weaknesses and is the fourth-rarest type in the series, with only 7.14% of all Pokémon being Electric.
While they are very powerful, there are ways to counter them if you have the right team.
Fortunately, we’ve got the details on everything you need to know about Electric-types!
So, without further ado, here is our guide to Electric-type weaknesses and resistances.
Electric Type Pokémon Weaknesses
Electric-type Pokémon are tried with Normal-types for having the fewest weaknesses in the series.
This means they can be quite difficult to fight against if you aren’t prepared with the right team.
If you’ve caught yourself wondering, “What are Electric-type Pokémon weak against?” during a battle, you’re not alone.
The only thing this type is weak to is Ground-type Pokémon, which are super effective against Electric.
Ground types like Sandslash, Donphan, and Sandaconda, one of the best snake Pokémon, are great choices when battling an Electric type.
While you could also use other type Pokémon, like Normal or Fighting, that they are normally damaged by, you will want to prioritize a Ground type for the double damage.
That said, it should also be noted that Electric types can remove their weakness to Ground by using the ability Levitate, holding an Air Balloon, or being under the effect of Magnet Rise.
Electric Type Pokémon Resistances
Although Electric-type Pokémon only have a single weakness, they are resistant to multiple other types.
This makes them exceptionally strong in many battles, and they are definitely worth adding to your team for that reason.
However, if you’re going to be fighting an Electric type, you need to know what not to use against them.
The types that they are resistant to include:
All attacks from these types will not be very effective, which could end up putting you in a very bad position.
Along with being resistant to Flying-type attacks, Electric Pokémon are also super effective against Flying-types, so you don’t want to use even the best bird Pokémon to face them.
Likewise, you don’t want to use a pure Electric-type Pokémon against the same type, since the attacks won’t be effective.
However, dual-type Electric Pokémon like Stunfisk, a Ground/Electric-type, or Sandy Shocks, an Electric/Ground-type, can be effective.
Best Counters For Electric Type Pokémon
If you know you’re going to be taking on an Electric-type Pokémon, you’ll want to make sure you have something solid to counter it.
Ground-type Pokémon are your best bet, so try to make sure that you have either a pure or dual-type one on your team.
However, you’ll want to keep in mind that Electric-types can lose their weakness to Ground, as mentioned above, though there is a way to counter this.
All Pokémon lose their immunity to Ground when they become grounded by moves like Thousand Arrows, Gravity, or Ingrain.
It is also worth keeping in mind that Electric-type moves are not very effective against:
So, if you really want to cover all of your bases, you can use a grass-type Pokémon to set up Ingrain before switching to your Ground type to finish off your Electric opponent.
What Beats Electric Type Pokémon?
Despite them not having a lot of weaknesses, there are many ways to bring an Electric Pokémon down.
However, to be effective against Electric-types, you have to know what exactly to use during battle.
There are many great Pokémon you can add to your team, as well as numerous moves that can inflict a lot of damage quickly.
With the right setup, you can easily take out any Electric-type Pokémon that gets in your way.
Pokémon To Use Against Electric Types
When it’s time to face off against an Electric type, these are some of the best Pokémon to have on your team.
Remember that Electric-types are strong against Flying and Water-types, so you absolutely don’t want to use those!
Some of the best Pokémon you can use include:
- Sandslash (Ground-type)
- Donphan (Ground-type)
- Torterra (Grass/Ground-type)
- Garchomp (Dragon/Ground-type)
- Flygon (Ground/Dragon-type)
In fact, Flygon, one of the best dragon Pokémon, is super effective against Electric types since it is immune to both Ground and Electric-type attacks.
However, if you’re able to have any of these Pokémon on your team, they can be an excellent counter to any Electric type you get in a fight with.
That said, it is also important that you have the right move sets lined up to do the most damage possible.
Moves To Use Against Electric Types
Some moves are more devastating to Electric types than others, and you should always try to set your Pokémon up with them for the biggest impact.
The best offensive moves to use include:
- Earthquake (Ground)
- Mud Bomb (Ground)
- Mud Slap (Ground)
- Thousand Arrows (Ground)
- Ingrain (Grass)
- Gravity (Psychic)
These moves will be the most damaging against an Electric type, and they can quickly help you end any battle against one.
Ingrain, Gravity, and Thousand Arrows, in particular, can be useful if an Electric enemy needs to be grounded.
That said, if you’re planning on using an Electric-type Pokémon, you’re going to have to watch out for these moves, as they will take you down fast!
Electric-type Pokémon are some of the most powerful in the series, and because they have only one weakness, taking them out can be a challenge.
Fortunately, there are ways to counter even the strongest Electric-types, as long as you know how to exploit their vulnerabilities.
Be sure to keep our guide handy if you’re going up against an Electric Pokémon, so that you can quickly take them out!
