The 25 Best Sims 4 Pet Mods
What are the best Sims 4 pet mods?
When Sims 4 finally got its pet expansion pack, fans jumped at the chance to add some furry friends to their virtual homes.
While there are already many things you do with your pets in the base game, modders have created even more fantastic additions that make owning pets in Sims 4 even more enjoyable.
The Best Sims 4 Pet Mods
If you want to add more pet-related content to your game, you’ve come to the right place.
We’ve rounded up the top pet mods for Sims 4, so you can easily download them and start playing.
Here’s our list of the 25 best Sims 4 pet mods:
25. Panda Maximus
Panda Maximus is as adorable as it is hilarious. This mod, as the name suggests, gives users the option of having a large panda as a pet.
Only the panda is a reskinned dog, and the result is absolutely amazing.
With his big blue eyes, cute round ears, and thick, fluffy body, this panda dog is ridiculously charming and by far one of the best pets you can add to your game.
There is no way that you won’t fall in love with this good boy, and you certainly won’t be able to stop laughing.
24. Three Cat Tails
Cats with only one tail are cute but basic. Fortunately, this mod mixes things up a bit and gives you the option to adopt a cat with three tails! It’s basically triple the fun for the whole family!
This adorable mod is perfect for anyone who wants to add a unique cat to their family, and it’s hard not to get attached to this little guy once you bring him home.
23. Vet-Hire Who Ever!
If you have the Cats and Dogs expansion pack and have opened your family-owned vet clinic, you know that hiring employees can be a bit convoluted regarding skill levels.
This mod makes running your own clinic a lot easier by allowing you to hire new employees regardless of their skill level.
Before, if you raised employee skills and then opened a new clinic somewhere else, you’d be locked out of rehiring them due to their high skill levels.
Now, you can rehire the staff you worked hard to train, which makes a lot more sense than the base game limitations!
22. Red Panda
Red pandas are just precious, and this mod adds them to Sims 4 for you to have fun with.
Specifically, it adds a brand new family you can play with that comes complete with a red panda habitat.
This location is beautifully created, so much so that it could pass as an area from one of the most popular video games right now.
There is a male and female red panda that you can interact with, and, if you really want, you can add them to your own household.
21. PralineSims’ Pet Eye Pack
If you’ve ever wished that there were more options when choosing your pet’s eye color, this mod is for you.
This eye pack adds a whopping 54 new colors to Sims 4 that you can use when creating your new virtual four-legged friend.
There are even heterochromatic versions if you want a truly unique look for your pet!
It is definitely worth giving this mod a try if you want to have the most customization options possible.
20. Less Pet Barfing
Although it may be a small tweak, it definitely makes the game a lot more enjoyable.
In the base game, pets are allowed to barf once every 30 to 60 minutes, which is way too often.
This mod boosts that cooldown to between 150 to 240 minutes, meaning your Sim will have much less cleaning to do.
While it may be small, it is definitely a welcome change!
19. Pernese Dragon Costume For Cats
Ever wanted to have a dragon as a pet to live out your Daenerys Targaryen dreams?
Well, this mod won’t give you a dragon, but it gives you the next best thing; an adorable dragon costume for your cat.
Available in six different colors, including gold, bronze, green, and white, this costume is absolutely adorable, and it is definitely something that cat lovers won’t want to play without.
While it won’t turn your Sims 4 into one of the best open-world PS4 games like Skyrim, at least the only thing you’ll have to worry about is these dragons hacking up hairballs and not flames.
18. Playable Pets
Although the pets in Sims 4 are a welcome addition, it was a bit of a letdown that you couldn’t play as them.
Fortunately, this Playable Pets mod does exactly what its name suggests and finally lets you explore the world as your favorite pets!
This mod gives you the ability to select your pets and play as them, but it also gives them their own needs and unique behaviors that you can have fun with.
Being able to control your pets makes things like training and completing pet contests a lot easier, and we definitely are surprised this mechanic was left out of the base game!
17. Minor Pet Traits
With the addition of small pets added through the My First Pet Stuff expansion pack, Simmers got to experience being able to care for hamsters, rats, pygmy hedgehogs, and more.
However, this mod expands on this pack by allowing users to pick new traits related to small animals.
For example, you can now give your Sims the ability to love small pets or hate small pets, which will influence how they act around these new animals.
These new traits give pretty decent buffs, and they definitely fit right into the game in a way that feels like they should have been an option from the beginning.
16. Dragon Package
We teased you with the dragon costume for cats earlier, but with this mod, we promise you can actually live out your dreams of being Daenerys Targaryen.
This incredible mod replaces the meshes used by large dogs, turning them into small, good boy-sized dragons, complete with horns and wings.
There are several different colors and styles to choose from, and they are all absolutely amazingly designed.
While they’re not technically dragons, they definitely look the part, and you can use them to roleplay a fantastical magical family worthy of some of the best RPG PS4 games.
15. Animal Lover Custom Trait
Another mod that influences traits, the Animal Lover Custom Trait mod, finally lets you create Sims who are true animal lovers.
This mod introduces the animal lover trait that makes Sims more inclined to play with their pets, master fishing, or become vegetarian, all through randomized custom whims.
It also allows Sims to learn animal-related skills much faster, which is a great bonus that definitely makes this mod worth downloading.
14. Small Dog Collars
Although the title of this mod says collars, it actually provides six different bandanas which you can equip for your small dogs.
This is a really simple and straightforward mod, but it is definitely one you’ll want to download.
After all, few things look cuter on small dogs than little bandanas, and you’re never going to want to play without this mod once you have it installed.
13. Crescent Moon For Cats & Kittens
If you’re a fan of Sailor Moon, you’re in luck, especially if you’re also a cat lover.
This mod adds a small crescent moon cat accessory to the game, making your cat look just like the black cat Luna in the series.
While it, unfortunately, doesn’t come with Hino Rei, one of the best black-haired anime girls, this is a mod that is a must-have for Sailor Moon fans.
12. Small Dogs Burberry Sweater Collection
You know how we said there are few things cuter than small dogs in bandanas? Well, small dogs in adorable sweaters may just be cuter.
This mod gives users seriously cute sweaters that they can put on their dogs, and each sweater is available in 48 different swatches.
If you love having little dogs in your Sims 4 homes, trust us, you need to get this mod.
11. K9 Officer Vest And Collar
If you have a Sim in law enforcement, you may want to consider downloading this mod so that your furry friends can get in on the action.
This mod adds a detailed K9 vest to the game, as well as unique K9 collars that your dogs can wear when they’re off the clock.
While it may not be as aww-inducing as a little sweater, it is still the perfect mod for detective Sims.
10. Cutie Pie Cat Eyes
Cats have some of the most beautiful animal eyes, and this mod aims to make their eyes even more awe-inspiring.
Cutie Pie Cat Eyes adds ten sets of large, round cat eyes in 10 colors. They don’t replace any of the original game options, only provide new ones that you can choose from.
While it’s not a huge change that will make your Sims 4 experience rival some of the best PS4 games to play right now, it is definitely a must if you want your feline friends to look as cute as possible.
9. Pet House Small Set
When your Sims have pets, you’re going to want to make sure they have a safe and comfortable place to sleep.
While the vanilla game does have pet beds, this mod adds brand-new small pet homes for your furry friend to sleep in.
These little homes are really well-designed, and they have a modern look that lets them fit perfectly into many home designs.
It’s nice to be able to give your pet their own special space, and this mod definitely makes it a bit easier to keep them comfortable.
8. Animated Placeable Birds
We’ve talked a lot about cats and dogs in this list, but this mod is completely dedicated to birds.
Modder Bakie has really outdone themselves with this mod, and it gives users the ability to place bluejays, cardinals, and golden tanagers around their homes.
These birds come with their own custom motions and sound effects, making them feel incredibly alive.
If that wasn’t enough, this modder has also released follow-up mods that add animated chickens as farm animals and steelpeckers from Star Wars!
7. Walk Your Cat
There were a lot of things left out of the vanilla game, such as being able to walk multiple pets.
However, cats really got the short end of the stick as you couldn’t take them for a walk at all!
Thankfully, this mod finally gives your Sim the ability to take their felines for a walk just like they would their dogs.
While some people may argue cats aren’t meant to be walked like dogs, if a man can walk an emu, we deserve to be able to walk our cats in Sims 4.
6. Animated Alligator
Another creator from the modder Bakie, this animated alligator mod is something we never knew we needed until we stumbled upon it.
Unlike many other mods that require the Cats and Dogs expansion pack, this mod only requires the base game, and it allows users to place alligators in water features where they can hang out and be awesome.
It will even dive under the water and swim around, which is really, really cool.
If you’ve ever wanted an alligator guarding your Sims household, this is the mod for you. (Though unfortunately, you can’t take it for a walk.)
5. Demogorgon Cat Hat
If you’re a fan of Stranger Things, you’ll definitely get a kick out of this mod.
This Cat Hat gives you the ability to turn your cat into a truly fearsome beast that could even strike fear into some of the toughest video game bosses.
This hat is both terrifying and oddly hilarious, and we highly recommend putting it on your cat at least once because it’s definitely worth it.
4. Applied Animal Behaviorist Aspiration
While we’ve talked about animal-themed traits that you can give your Sims, this mod allows you to choose a new aspiration for your Sim to strive for.
With the Applied Animal Behaviorist aspiration, Sims will want to be around animals as much as possible, seeking to befriend them all. Essentially, they want to become an animal whisperer.
If you can help them achieve all of their objectives, you can unlock the Behaviorist Wisdom trait, which allows your Sim to fill their motives by speaking with animals.
This is a really well-thought-out mod, and it’s highly recommended for animal-loving Sims.
3. Pets Seasons Package
Now we’ve talked about sweaters and bandanas, but this mod really goes above and beyond when it comes to adorable pet outfits.
With this mod, you can choose from hats, sunglasses, and shoes for all pets, as well as two new outfits for both large and small dogs and one new outfit for cats.
If you have always wanted to play dress-up with your Sims 4 pets, this is one mod that you’re not going to regret downloading.
2. Small Animal Package
Taking our number two spot is a really fantastic mod that you’ll definitely want to download if you want to add more small animals to your game.
The Small Animal Package mod comes in two parts, with part one introducing small animals like the guinea pig, sugar glider, bunny, gerbil, and ferret, while part two adds a leopard gecko, lop ear rabbit, mini pig, giant day gecko, flying squirrel, and chameleon, to name a few.
With 20 new pets in all, as well as new cages, this mod is an absolute must-have if you want to add even more small pets to Sims 4.
Now if only there were a mod to add some of our favorite Pokémon from the best Pokémon games of all time, we’d be set!
1. Animal Rescue Mod
While you can open a pet clinic in Sims 4, this mod allows you to take things one step further, which is why it takes our number one spot.
With the Animal Rescue mod, Sims have access to a custom career that allows you to become animal rescuers with custom pet stats and the ability to train animals and place them up for adoption.
There are also price changes to feeding and veterinary care while you are in this career, and you make money every time a pet is adopted.
If you are using the dog or cat lover custom content trait, your Sim will also get a happy buff related to rehoming a pet successfully.
This is by far one of the most well-developed and fleshed-out pet mods you can download, and we couldn’t recommend it more highly!
Summary
Although the My First Pet Stuff and Cats and Dogs expansion pack gave Simmers a lot of content to work with, these 25 mods make having pets in Sims 4 even more enjoyable.
If you have a lot of Sims that are pet owners, we definitely encourage you to try out these incredible mods and see for yourself just how awesome they are in-game.
