Closer look
The first thing that you’ll notice about the Notepal after removing it from the box is its brushed aluminum top layer. Not only does it give the pad a nice refreshing look but it aids in the cooling of the laptop as well. We all know that aluminum is one of the best metals when it comes to heat dissipation and that is why CM integrated it into this new pad.
Cut into the surface of the aluminum is thousands of tiny openings. These are vents that allow air to come in contact with the bottom of the laptop. The mesh style was an opinion I am sure CM played around with when it came to this cooler for the holes gives it a nicer look.
Four rubber pads keep the laptop glued to the surface of the pad eliminating any instances of slipping.
Looking at the bottom of the cooler we see where the plastic comes in. The entire bottom in made of black plastic.
What dominate the back are the two huge 140mm fans. The fans can be dialed in to run between 700 and 1200 RPM and this is via the user and not some type of PWM function. According to CM’s site the fans move a maximum of 92 CFM and generate 20-28dBA of noise.
What is missing from the cooler is the cable routing channels that we often see on CM products.
Four more runner feet keep the cooler and the laptop sitting atop from moving about. The two upper rubber feet are glued to hinged feet. This allows you to adjust the back half of the cooler for greater comforter.
The fans are powered off of 5V from your laptop’s USB port. The outgoing USB port is located on the side of the pad along with two others for connecting whatever small devices you may need to interact with. And to adjust those fans we mentioned there is a small dial next to the USB ports.
Testing
Overall the Cooler Master Notepal A200 did an admiral job of cooling my adding Toshiba laptop. Once placing the pad under the machine, we saw that about ten minutes later is when we saw the temps drop the most. The difference between using no pad at all and using this one was exactly seven degrees.
Conclusion
The Cooler Master Notepal A200 is a great choice if you are looking for your new laptop. The dual 140mm cooling fans really put the cooling pad over the top when it comes to taming the heat that can be expelled from the bottom of some laptops especially those that created more heat due to discrete graphics.
The aluminum upper layer gives the pad a nice rich look while perform a secondary task of helping to dissipate heat. The rest of the cooling pad is plastic but it is fairly sturdy and should last for ages. The fact there are not just one extra USB port but two is a great idea because many laptops are short on these ports, so here is your chance to gain an extra.
At a MSRP of $29.99, the Notepal A200 is not the cheapest solution but it is a pretty good one.
