The Best Games Like Disco Elysium

What are the best games like Disco Elysium?

Disco Elysium gained a ton of popularity thanks to its unique gameplay and narrative-driven RPG elements.

However, because it is such a distinctive game, it can be hard to find something to follow up with that can provide the same level of entertainment.

Fortunately for you, we’ve found some incredible games like Disco Elysium that are sure to grab your attention.

The 10 Best Games Like Disco Elysium

We selected games based on their gameplay, narrative, and player reviews to create this list.

This has allowed us to find some real gems that you may not have heard of before, but that can deliver an unforgettable gameplay experience!

If you’re ready to find your next RPG adventure, here’s our list of the 10 best games like Disco Elysium:

10. Sunless Sea

Games Like Disco Elysium Sunless Sea

Kicking off our list, we have Sunless Sea, an RPG where players control their own steamships while sailing across a vast underground sea.

This game is all about exploration and survival in an inhospitable place where, if monsters don’t get you, madness and cannibalism will.

Players start off by choosing their character’s background and ambitions, and the way to win is by being able to achieve whatever ambition they chose.

While navigating the randomized maps, players can hire unique crew members, though if you spend too long in the dark sea, they may all end up going mad!

Although your chosen captain will almost certainly die, don’t worry. You can pass on resources to the next generation and buy a family home to horde your heirlooms!

Sunless Sea is a bit similar to the best games like Until Dawn, with its survival and horror aspects, and it will definitely leave you terrified of what lurks below.

9. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines

Games Like Disco Elysium Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is an action RPG set in Los Angeles where players take on the role of a fledgling vampire.

Starting off, players can select which vampire clan they want to belong to, and each comes with its own unique powers, combat abilities, and dialogue options.

The clan you select will also impact how others interact with you, which can open up new possibilities and opportunities throughout the game.

Throughout the game, players will have to choose who their loyalties lie with, and who they choose to support will impact the ending.

While the main plot revolves around tracking down a sarcophagus, there are plenty of side quests to take on as well.

These side missions can be found throughout the various open-world hubs of Hollywood, Los Angeles, Chinatown, and Santa Monica.

What really makes this game stand out is its gritty aesthetic, which makes it fit in perfectly alongside Disco Elysium.

8. Fallout: New Vegas

Games Like Disco Elysium Fallout New Vegas

Set in the post-apocalyptic Mojave wasteland, New Vegas is one of the best Fallout Games, and it’s also one that every Disco Elysium fan should play.

This game kicks off with the Courier waking up after having been ambushed and shot in the head for the package they were carrying.

However, by looking for answers, players end up embroiled in a gathering storm between warring factions who all have their eye on Hoover Dam and the Vegas Strip.

It will be up to players to decide who they want to support or if they want to crown themselves the king of New Vegas instead!

What we love about this game is that it gives players a ton of freedom to do pretty much whatever they want.

While you can follow the main plot the way the game suggests, you could go off and decide to strike it rich at the casinos or just murder everyone indiscriminately.

Fallout: New Vegas is often considered the best Fallout game for good reason, and we certainly can’t get enough of it.

Although it seems unlikely that we’ll ever get a New Vegas 2, we’re still hoping to revisit the Mojave in the future!

7. Unavowed

Games Like Disco Elysium Unavowed

After being possessed by a demon and used as its vessel to cut a bloody swath across New York City, the player character’s life is changed forever.

With no life to return to, players are left with no choice but to join a society known as the Unavowed and dedicate themselves to eradicating evil.

Combining 2D pixel art with gameplay similar to classic adventure games, Unavowed is filled with quests, puzzles, and fascinating locations.

Throughout the game, players will have to work alongside others on the team to try and stem the tide of rising supernatural threats.

What we really love about this game is its storytelling and art style, both of which are very reminiscent of Disco Elysium but with many more literal demons.

Its visual design does a great job of painting New York City as a place where the supernatural can be lurking around any corner.

Unavowed is dark, atmospheric, and filled with an incredibly rich story that makes it extremely difficult to put down!

6. Planescape: Torment

Games Like Disco Elysium Planescape Torment

Planescape: Torment is a bit like the best games like Fire Emblem, with its tactical RPG elements and isometric perspective.

This game takes place in various locations from the multiverse of Planescape, a D&D campaign setting, and like Disco Elysium, it is very story-driven.

Combat is not prominently featured in this game, though it is required during a few significant moments, and instead, an emphasis is placed on exploration.

The plot revolves around the Nameless One, the player character who is an immortal with amnesia on a quest to learn about his past lives.

While searching for answers, players can stumble upon many fascinating potential companions, including a succubus and a crossbow-wielding cube.

Players can also change the Nameless One’s alignment, class, and abilities based on choices made throughout the game!

Although this game originally came out in 1999, it has since been enhanced and re-released in 2017, making it look and play better than ever.

We highly recommend Planescape: Torment to any fan of Disco Elysium and also to anyone who loves old-school RPGs!

5. Outer Wilds

Games Like Disco Elysium Outer Wilds

If you’ve enjoyed the best games like Mass Effect and want something similar but with more open-ended puzzles, Out Wilds is for you!

This game is very much driven by nonlinear exploration, and it leaves players to their own devices when it comes to figuring things out.

The plot of the game revolves around exploring the solar system and gathering as much information as you can before the sun explodes.

Yeah, the sun goes supernova every 22 real-life minutes, after which you’ll restart at the beginning of an endless time loop.

Players will have to explore as much as they can to piece together why the time loop is happening and what can be done to stop it.

Along the way, you can encounter some really amazing physics-based phenomena, including twin planets filled with secrets. (Literally)

As time goes by, all planets in the system will begin to change, and you’ll have to get to them at the right time to uncover their mysteries.

Outer Wilds isn’t like a lot of dialogue-heavy titles, and you can go multiple runs without speaking to anyone.

This is really a game that the less you know going in, the better off you’ll be. Just trust us when we say that this is one gaming experience you’ll never forget.

4. Divinity: Original Sin

Games Like Disco Elysium Divinity Original Sin

Divinity: Original Sin is one of the best RPG PS4 games, and it serves as a prequel to the original Divine Destiny.

In this game, players take on the role of Source Hunter, whose job is to rid the world of dark magic, though things quickly spiral out of control.

On a routine job, players quickly find themselves embroiled in a plot that threatens not only the world but the very fabric of time and space.

What we especially love about this game is that it basically gives you an entire world to play around in however you want.

Original Sin is all about freedom, and you can basically go off exploring various environments just to see what cool stuff you can find.

Players can also make use of a variety of skills and spells to interact with the environment and help out during combat.

The Enhanced Edition of this game even comes with numerous updates, including split-screen co-op, story revisions, new skills, new enemies, and a new ending!

Like Disco Elysium, Original Sin is very good at creating a pen-and-paper type RPG experience, which is something that’s become increasingly rare!

3. Undertale

Games Like Disco Elysium Undertale

Undertale is an RPG where, at first glance, it seems simple, but once you start playing, you’ll soon discover an intricate world with an incredibly deep story.

When the game starts off, players take on the role of a child who has fallen into the underground world of monsters.

Your main goal is to escape, but unlike typical RPGs, EXP isn’t necessarily something you want to earn, and you definitely don’t want LOVE!

There are also many ways to play through the game, including as a complete pacifist or a horrible genocidal maniac!

Combat is turn-based and revolves around dodging attacks from monsters in a bullet hell-like mini-game.

You can choose to repeatedly spare enemies or unleash your own attacks against them to gain EXP and LOVE.

What really makes this game stand out, though, is the incredible writing and the unforgettable characters you meet.

We’ll be the first to admit that we shed a few tears at the end, and it is one of the saddest video games of all time, so just be prepared before you play!

Although there are no plans for a direct sequel, creator Toby Fox is working on a spin-off called Deltarune, and two chapters of it have been released!

2. Wasteland 3

Games Like Disco Elysium Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 gives players control of a squad of desert rangers trying to restore the law to the post-apocalyptic nuclear world.

Unfortunately, trying to rebuild Arizona is quickly becoming a losing battle, but the game kicks off with a spark of hope.

A man called the Patriarch offers aid to Arizona in exchange for rescuing the land of Colorado from his three power-hungry children.

This brings the desert rangers up from the scorching desert and into the frozen mountains of the Rockies, where hostilities are high.

In Colorado, players will have to start building their forces from the ground up, creating a base, gathering recruits, and forging alliances.

The way you choose to handle various factions will have a profound effect on Colorado and how the story plays out.

All of the combat is turn-based, and you can assemble your own unique squad of talented rangers to help you out.

Will you work to make Colorado a better place, or will you tear it apart to get what you want? The choices are all yours!

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Games Like Disco Elysium The Witcher 3

Along with being one of the best games like Skyrim, The Witcher 3 is also a must-play for anyone who enjoyed Disco Elysium.

This game gives players control of Geralt of Rivia as he searches for his adopted daughter Ciri, who the Wild Hunt is pursuing.

As Geralt, players can choose to dive into the main story or explore the world, taking out whatever monsters are unlucky enough to cross their paths.

There are also a number of important choices to make throughout the game that can lead to one of 36 different endings.

While the original game came out in 2015, it has since received a next-gen update with 4k textures, improved controls, and new content based on the Netflix series.

The storytelling is remarkably strong in this game, and you don’t even have to have played the previous games to jump in and have a great time!
