The 25 Best Bald Anime Characters
What are the best bald anime characters?
Anime is full of characters of different shapes, sizes, hairstyles, and colors.
While we’ve written about the best anime girls with various hair colors before, it’s time to give some love to the characters who rock a bald head and prove that you don’t need funky hair to be a memorable, kickass character.
The Best Bald Anime Characters
Our ranked lists are created by researching and rounding up information from the most reputable web sources.
Here’s our list of the 25 best bald anime characters:
25. Superalloy Darkshine (One Punch Man)
Starting off with possibly one of the most controversial bald anime characters, we have Superalloy Darkshine.
Although there is no denying this character’s sheer strength as one of the strongest characters in One Punch Man, he isn’t without controversy.
Originally depicted as a frail, light-skinned boy, after weight training and building his body, he was able to transform into a total powerhouse, capable of taking on any foe that got in his way.
However, this also came with a darker, shinier skin tone which is meant to mimic the tan oily appearance of competitive bodybuilders.
Unfortunately, on-screen, this appeared to many fans as a form of blackface, and from his debut, there has been a lot of backlash against his appearance.
Regardless of which side of the argument you find yourself on, there’s no denying that Superalloy is a memorable anime character, and his level-headed personality is a welcome change from some of the other, more egotistical members of the Hero Association.
24. Kamaji (Spirited Away)
Appearing as an elderly man with six arms and a completely bald head, Kamaji is one of the most memorable characters from the gorgeous anime film Spirited Away.
Although he is unfriendly to Chihiro at first, he eventually comes around, even going so far as to pretend to be her grandfather to protect her.
As a spider spirit, his arms can extend infinitely, and they allow him to grab items around his workplace without needing to move from his position. His exceptional memory also enables him to grab various herbs without needing to look where they are.
Despite looking a bit like Dr. Eggman, fans of Spirited Away have come to love Kamaji and the relationship he cultivates with Chihiro.
23. Chiaotzu (Dragon Ball)
This small doll-like human is incredibly easy to pick out of a crowd with his bald head and red cheeks.
First introduced as a student of the Crane Hermit, Chiaotzu eventually joins Goku and his friends. Although he isn’t physically strong, his psychokinesis can be especially powerful.
Despite being little more than a background character for much of the series, Chiaotzu is definitely one of the most memorable bald anime characters, if only for his stand-out physical appearance.
22. Gluttony (Fullmetal Alchemist)
Hailing from Fullmetal Alchemist, this hulking bald behemoth is the second homunculus to debut and, as his name suggests, he’s all about eating.
Relatively simple-minded, thinking mostly about eating, Gluttony has acidic saliva, powerful jaws, and will eat almost anything he can get his hands on.
Though he does prefer girls, maybe because they have a better flavor?
21. Nappa (Dragon Ball Z)
An elite Saiyan warrior who came to Earth with Vegeta to search for the Dragon Balls, this bald powerhouse wasn’t always sporting a bald noggin, and instead, it is implied that his hair fell out naturally as he aged, leaving him to embrace his iconic look.
Notably violent in nature, even for a Saiyan, Nappa is a force to be reckoned with, and very seldom do viewers get to see a more sympathetic side of him, such as in a flashback shown during the Frieza Saga.
20. Hajime Sugoroku (Nanbaka)
A guard and one of the main protagonists of Nanbaka, this stern-faced bald character is someone you can’t help but enjoy, even if he is arrogant, remorseless, and relatively ill-tempered.
However, despite his brutal efficiency and violent proclivities, he isn’t above flouting the rules himself, even keeping a pet cat when it isn’t allowed.
It’s hard not to relate to a guy who prioritizes his pet cat, which helps make him one of the most popular bald anime characters.
19. Keith Shadis (Attack on Titan)
With an imposing stature, deep voice, and no-nonsense attitude, Keith Shadis is the head instructor of the 104th Cadet Corps, which Mikasa — one of the best black-haired anime girls — graduated from.
Considering himself to be above others, he is eventually humbled by his failures, which causes him to step down from his position.
Although a bit of a hardass, as an instructor he was incredibly observant of his cadets, distinguishing their character traits through subtle things like expressions and actions that would have seemed innocuous to others.
18. Jura Neekis (Fairy Tail)
Earning the nickname Iron Rock due to his affinity for Earth Magic, Jura is a bold, bald character that immediately stands out due to his massive, muscular physique.
While he may look like the type of guy you don’t want to meet in a dark alley, Jura is incredibly down-to-earth, humble, and modest.
He never boasts about his strength, refers to himself as the weakest member of the Ten Wizard Saints, and goes out of his way to protect his allies whenever he can.
This young mage is the perfect example of why you should never judge a book by its cover.
17. Dot Pixis (Attack on Titan)
Dot is an eccentric old man who is capable of remaining calm and collected even in the face of incredible chaos. He is also one of the most strategically brilliant characters, even if his plans often seem crazy to others.
He places a great amount of trust in Eren, even preventing Kitz from firing on the boy’s titan form, believing that he could seal the hole in Wall Rose.
Dot isn’t afraid to take calculated risks, which makes him an efficient leader, and he quickly became a favorite of fans, who fell in love with his calm — if unusual — personality.
16. Jiren (Dragon Ball)
Another character lacking hair from the Dragon Ball series, Jiren, is the strongest member of the Pride Troopers and acts as the main antagonist in the Universe Survival Saga.
Even though he is one of the strongest beings in the multiverse, he isn’t without a strong sense of justice and has been shown to be an honorable combatant.
In terms of appearance, he certainly stands out from the crowd with grey skin, large black eyes, and a sleek bald head that makes him resemble the traditional grey alien stereotype, but much more muscular.
15. Connie Springer (Attack on Titan)
Although this buzz-cut sporting boy still has a tiny bit of hair, he still has it cut short enough to make it onto this list.
As one of the shortest members of the Scout Regiment, he makes up for his stature by being outgoing and reckless, never missing a chance to show off his skills.
While this enthusiasm dies down after a few close calls with the Titans, he never truly loses his sense of optimism, which makes him a much-needed light character in the dark, chaotic anime world of Attack on Titan.
14. Jet Black (Cowboy Bebop)
The father figure member of the Bebop crew, Jet hates being seen as the oldest member, instead preferring to be seen as a young man. (Despite the lack of hair on his head.)
While he comes across as rude and a bit gruff, he can be kind-hearted and thoughtful when it comes to his friends and allies.
When it comes to the crew, they are his family and he would do anything to make sure that they are taken care of.
Jet is by far one of the best examples of a great friend in anime, and he is someone you’d definitely want to have on your side.
13. Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryūsai (Bleach)
From the same anime that gave us one of the best purple-haired anime girls, we have Yamamoto, who looks like the quintessential sage old man with his long beard, thick Fu Manchu mustache, and head bereft of hair.
Regarded as the strongest captain in the Gotei 13, Yamamoto is still fit for his age and highly respected by many of the Shinigami.
Although serious and dedicated, he can be quickly angered if betrayed and doesn’t tolerate insubordination.
12. Hit (Dragon Ball)
Hit is a tall purple-skinned humanoid and another of the many popular bald characters from the Dragon Ball franchise.
While his appearance may set him apart from others immediately, his skills as a legendary assassin also make him impressive and unforgettable, especially as the main antagonist in the Universe 6 Saga.
Despite being an assassin, he is shown to be highly honorable and trustworthy, refusing to attack targets from behind.
His nature and refusal to be arrogant make it hard not to enjoy this character every time he shows up in the anime.
11. Agil (Sword Art Online)
Andrew Mills, more commonly known as Agil, made his debut as a supporting character during the Aincrad Arc and he’s been reoccurring in Sword Art Online ever since.
As one of the 10,000 players who got trapped in the game, Agil has shown to be an incredibly generous individual, using his money to help mid-level players and those on lower floors.
A strong, sword-wielding, dark-skinned man, Agil is someone that you definitely would want to have on your side if you ever ended up trapped in a game like Sword Art Online.
10. Frieza (Dragon Ball)
Another powerful Dragon Ball character who kicks ass without any hair, Frieza, is a powerful galactic overlord who creates massive armies from the planets that he takes over.
After hearing about the potential for Super Saiyans and witnessing several of the race quickly evolve to be stronger, he destroyed the Saiyan race to try and ensure these powerful beings could never exist. (Spoiler: It didn’t work.)
Despite being a villain, Frieza is incredibly memorable and a fan favorite, even if you can’t help but want to see him brutally skewered.
9. Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Although people debate whether or not The Last Airbender is an anime — even the creators — we can’t talk about the best bald characters without mentioning Aang.
Not only is he incredibly powerful as the Avatar, but the journey he undergoes and his determination not to compromise his morals is inspiring.
Regardless of whether or not you consider the show itself to be an anime, there is no denying that Aang is by far one of the most recognizable and memorable characters in all of animation.
8. Tien Shinhan (Dragon Ball)
A master of martial arts and one of the strongest Earthlings, one of his most prominent features is his prominent third eye, which he retains due to his alien Triclops heritage.
While not naturally bald, he opts to shave his head. This style choice draws even more attention to his third eye, as he doesn’t have any easy way to hide it.
Although he comes across as ruthless and cold-hearted at first, he cares deeply for Chiaotzu, whom he considers to be his best friend and someone he would do anything for.
7. Makarov Dreyar (Fairy Tail)
A Guild Master of the Fairy Tail Guild, Makarov certainly looks the part with his stern eyebrows, balding head, and thick white beard.
Exceptionally short but with a big heart, Makarov loves and believes in people, wanting everyone around him to reach their full potential.
Despite being a Guild Master, he isn’t without his eccentricities, and often dons wacky hats or strikes weird poses.
It’s incredibly amusing for viewers, and in Fairy Tail, Makarov definitely provides some well-timed comic relief.
6. Ikkaku Madarame (Bleach)
Behind his imposing figure lies an honorable fighter who is surprisingly self-conscious about his bald scalp, sometimes saying that it’s shaven instead of simply bald.
Anyone unfortunate enough to point it out finds themselves quickly on his bad side.
As an incredibly formidable opponent, Ikkaku prefers one-on-one battles, believing them to be the most respectable.
5. Krillin (Dragon Ball)
A monk competing to be Roshi’s apprentice, he was often at odds with Goku, though eventually, they grow to be friends.
While Goku may have him beat in some areas, Krillin has shown to be more clever than him on occasion, and he can more than hold his own when push comes to shove.
Although he’s not the most powerful bald character, he is definitely a favorite among anime fans.
4. Alex Louis Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist)
The Strong Arm Alchemist certainly is a strong character, and his shaved head sports only one tiny curl of blond hair to accompany his impressive mustache.
As an officer of the Amestrian State Military, Alex is extremely caring and proves to be a good friend and invaluable ally to Edward Elric.
Fans can’t help but love how softhearted this gentle giant is — sometimes comically so — a trait that makes him immediately endearing.
3. Master Roshi (Dragon Ball)
Between his beach clothes, sunglasses, walking stick, and perverted personality, you can’t help but be amused by this bald old man.
A martial arts master, Son Goku wouldn’t be who he is today without him, and despite looking old and frail, he can level whole mountains if the time calls for it.
2. Piccolo (Dragon Ball)
If you haven’t caught on by now, the Dragon Ball franchise is an anime with a lot of bald characters!
Our last Dragon Ball character and our number two pick, Piccolo, is without a doubt one of the best bald characters and he is immediately recognizable.
Although he started out as one of Goku’s biggest enemies, proving to be the strongest fighter in the final saga of Dragon Ball, he does eventually become a permanent member of Dragon Team and one of Earth’s favorite heroes.
Today, he is a favorite among fans of the franchise and by far one of the most popular bald characters in all of anime.
1. Saitama (One Punch Man)
The main character and most powerful being in the series, Saitama, is the superman of bald anime characters.
While he started out being a hero for fun, he ended up facing a crisis as he discovered being so powerful made battles less thrilling.
However, after signing up with the Hero Association and being assigned the name Caped Baldy, he now fights to protect his home city from anything that threatens it along with other heroes like Tatsumi, one of the best green-haired anime girls.
While he may not look impressive at first, once he puts on his serious face, it’s lights out for anyone who gets in the way of his fist.
