15. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
First up: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
This first-person shooter was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
It was released worldwide in 2006 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Players assume control of Captain Nick Reyes, a Special Operations pilot, and engage in aerial combat in Reyes’s transforming fighter, the Jackal.
Players can switch between aerial combat and traditional “boots-on-the-ground” combat seamlessly and can follow their progress throughout the game.
Despite a little bit of pre-release critique, Infinite Warfare received favorable reviews upon release and was named “Best Shooter” at E3 by Game Informer.
14. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
The fourteenth best Call of Duty game of all time is Advanced Warfare.
It’s the eleventh primary installment in the Call of Duty Series and was developed by Sledgehammer Games.
The game was released on November 4, 2014, and is presented from a first-person shooter perspective. Players work their way through a number of missions, receiving upgrade points that allow them to improve their Exo suits and weapons.
It’s the first game in the series that allows players to choose different types of conventional weapons and features. The Exo cloak ability allows players to turn transparent for a short period.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was met with favorable reviews and won the award for “Best Graphics – Technology” at IGN’s Best of 2014 awards.
13. Call of Duty: Ghosts
Call of Duty: Ghosts was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision on November 5, 2013.
It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo Wii U.
The game is set in the near future after the destruction of the Middle East. Players take control of Logan Walker for the majority of the game but have the option to play as other characters later on.
These Special Operations Forces must fight a new technologically superior global power to survive. It’s not about gaining freedom or liberty in this one, it’s purely about survival!
Call of Duty: Infinite War was praised for its multiplayer gameplay and the introduction of its new gameplay mode, “Extinction”.
12. Call of Duty: WWII
Call of Duty: WWII was developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision.
The first-person shooter was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 3, 2017.
The game is set in the European Centre and mainly follows a squad in the first infantry position as they do battle on the Western Front.
Sticking closely to the historical events of Operation Overlord, players control Ronald “Red” Daniels and must work their way through campaign mode without the luxury of replenishing health.
Instead, players must use their squad-mates or health packs to stay alive during their missions.
Praise was given to WWII for its storyline and the return of the health bar in single-player mode.
The game was a commercial success, generating over $500 million in revenue only three days after it was released.
11. Call of Duty
Call of Duty is the Father of all the other Call of Duty games on this list.
The original first-person shooter was developed by Infinity Ward, published by Activision, and released worldwide in 2003.
Call of Duty was released only on Microsoft Windows and simulated the Warfare of World War II.
Players are set several missions to complete throughout World War II and control an infantry soldier that’s able to wield many authentic WWII weapons.
During each mission, players need to complete a series of objectives to progress to the next mission. All the objectives are marked on a heads-up display, and players can save and load the game anytime they want.
According to Metacritic, Call of Duty received critical acclaim upon release and won several “Game of the Year” awards in 2003.
10. Call of Duty 2
Call of Duty 2 is the second installment in the COD series and was released worldwide on October 25, 2005.
The game was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360.
Like its older brother, the game is set during World War II. Players view the perspective of four characters, one from each of the three armies and two from the British Army.
It has a total of 27 missions, split between four campaigns, and divided into three stories. Call of Duty 2 brings new features to the series like; regenerating health and a grenade icon that will let you know when one’s about to explode.
Both the graphics and sound were highly praised by critics upon release, and the game received generally positive reviews overall.
In the ninth position, we have Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
It was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision in October 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox One.
Black Ops 4 is the sequel to 2015’s Black Ops III and is the fifteenth installment in the COD series overall.
It’s the first Call of Duty game not to include a single-player campaign mode, instead, choosing to feature solo missions which highlight the backstories of the “Specialists”; the game’s multiplayer characters.
Missions are between Black Ops II and Black Ops III and take place chronologically. The game also features three different zombie maps.
Black Ops 4 became the second best-selling title in the US in 2004, grossing over $500 million in retail sales worldwide in its first three days of release.
8. Call of Duty: World at War
The eighth-best Call of Duty game of all time is World at War.
Developed by Treyarch and published by Activision, World at War was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Xbox 360 in November 2008.
World at War was the first in the series to introduce a Zombie mode and had a mobile version made by Glu Mobile.
The game is told from the perspectives of Private C Miller, US Petty Officer Locke, and Private Demitri Petrenko. It focuses on the Pacific and Eastern Front theatres of World War II and makes use of a new cooperative mode, which allows up to four players online and two players locally.
World at War received positive praise from critics upon release and sold over 3 million copies in the United States in its first two months.
7. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Next on the list is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
It was released in 2015 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It was developed by Treyarch and published by Activision.
The game takes place in 2065, 40 years after Black Ops II. The world is facing upheaval from new technology and changes to the environment, so a team of cybernetic-ally enhanced Black Ops is on a mission to put things back as they were. However, things quickly become blurred between humanity and what’s been created.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III was a commercial success and became the top-selling retail game in the United States in 2015.
6. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, or Call of Duty: MW3 as it’s more commonly known, is the result of a joint development between Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games.
Activision published the game worldwide in 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, and the Nintendo Wii.
The game finished off the original Modern Warfare saga and was the sequel to 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Players begin the game straight after the last mission of Modern Warfare 2 and take control of Task Force 141, consisting of Captain Price, Soap MacTavish, and Yuri.
Task Force 141 is on a mission to hunt down Vladamir Makarov, a Russian terrorist that’s responsible for a series of terror attacks across Europe, and bring him to justice.
Upon release, Modern Warfare 3 received positive reviews from critics and became a commercial success, picking up a “Best Shooter” award at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards.
5. Call of Duty: Black Ops
Released in 2010, Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first-person shooter developed by Treyarch and published by Activision.
It was released worldwide for the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, and Xbox 360, and is the seventh title in the overall Call of Duty Series.
The game is set in the 1960s during the Cold War and follows CIA operative, Alex Mason.
Alex is trying to remember specific memories that will help him locate a numbers station, which he needs to get to asap. If he doesn’t, it will broadcast to sleeper agents that will use chemical weapons across the United States.
Within just 24 hours of going on sale, Call of Duty: Black Ops sold more than 5.9 million copies worldwide!
4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019)
The fourth best Call of Duty Game of all time is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
This 2019 first-person shooter was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft office.
It’s the sixteenth title in the overall COD series and takes place in a realistic and modern setting.
The campaign follows the British SAS forces, and a CIA officer, as they join forces with rebels from Urzikstan to try and combat the Russian troops that have overrun their country.
As well as reworking the gameplay, new features have been added, such as a form of Ground War mode, which now supports up to 64 players, and a Realism mode that removes the head-up-display.
After receiving some initial mixed pre-release reviews, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gained praise for its gameplay, story, and graphics. It also won “Best Online Multiplayer” at the 2019 Game Critic Awards.
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
In third place, we have Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on November 12, 2012, and is the ninth game in the COD franchise.
The game is set in two different periods, the late 1980s and 2025. It follows on from the story of Black Ops and players go between controlling Alex Mason and Frank Woods, who are two of the original characters from Black Ops.
In 2025, players control Alex Mason’s son, David, and in both periods, players are pursuing Raul Menendez, who’s behind a second cold war in 2025 and who kidnapped Woods in the 80s.
Black Ops II received praise for its gameplay, story, multiplayer, and zombie modes. It grossed $500 million in its first 24 hours of release!
2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Remastered)
Call of Duty 4 was the first game in the Modern Warfare line to be released, and it blew the doors wide open for FPS gaming. The original game was first published in 2007 and was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
The remastered version was released in 2017, complete with multiplayer gaming, and was something die-hard COD fans had been wanting to see for years.
It is, without a doubt, one of the best “remasters” in gaming history.

The game was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision in November 2010.
This time around, the game follows Task Fore 141 on their hunt for Russian terrorist Vladamir Makarov, as well as protecting the country from a Russian Invasion.
Players control five different characters throughout the game, from a first-person perspective, and are treated with some additional new features and weaponry.
As you would expect from the best Call of Duty Game of all time, Modern Warfare 2 received critical acclaim upon release and sold approximately 4.7 million copies in the United States and the United Kingdom in its first 24 hours.
