Fire-Type Pokémon Weaknesses & Resistances
Fire-type Pokémon are the seventh most common type in the series, which means you’re going to come across them often.
If you don’t know how to counter Fire-types, you can easily find yourself losing battles that could have otherwise been won easily.
Fortunately for you, we’ve created this in-depth guide covering all of the weaknesses and resistances of Fire-type Pokémon!
Fire Type Pokémon Weaknesses
If you’ve found yourself wondering, “What are Fire-type Pokémon weak against?” you’re not alone.
With 18 different types of Pokémon, it can be difficult to keep all of their weaknesses straight.
However, Fire-type Pokémon have some very strong attacks, so in a battle, you will want to take them down as quickly as possible.
Fire Pokémon are weak against three types:
Rock and Water-types, in particular, are great to use against Fire-types since they resist Fire attacks.
This means you will be doing double damage while only receiving half the attack damage back if you use one of these types.
Options like Whiscash (Water/Ground) and Goldeen (Water), two of the best fish Pokémon, are great to use against Fire types.
However, there are also tons of other Pokémon you can add to your team, which we will cover below!
Fire Type Pokémon Resistances
If you want to be able to defeat a Fire Pokémon in battle, you’ll need to know what types of attacks they can resist.
The last thing you want to do is use a Pokémon that is only going to do half-damage in combat, leaving you vulnerable.
Fire-type Pokémon are resistant against:
You absolutely don’t want to use any of these types if you can help it, as you won’t be doing as much damage as you could be.
It should also be noted that Fire weakens Bug, Grass, Ice, and Steel, making them especially vulnerable during battle.
That said, dual types of these Pokémon can be considered so long as one of their types is something that fire is neutral or weak against.
For instance, Lombre (Water/Grass) or Aurorus (Rock/Ice) would work because they have a co-type that can be super effective against Fire.
Of course, Dragon-types can also resist Fire, so when in doubt, you can always use one of the best dragon Pokémon during battle!
Best Counters For Fire Type Pokémon
Although there are a lot of Pokémon you can use to take down a Fire-type, some are preferable to others.
Rock and Water Pokémon are by far the best you can choose, and we highly recommend having at least one of these types on your team.
Ground types can also be useful since they weaken Fire, but since they are not resistant to fire, you’ll have to watch their HP.
The lineup you choose will also depend on which of the best Pokémon games of all time you are playing, your level, and the region you are currently in.
You will also have to consider the moves you will use, but we’ll give you some tips below!
What Beats Fire Type Pokémon?
When it comes time to take on a Fire-type Pokémon, you’ll need to make sure you have the right team and the right moves in place.
Don’t think you can simply rely on one of the best dog Pokémon to get the job done because that could set you up for failure!
While there are many Pokémon to choose from, you’ll have to pay close attention to their types and whether or not they can perform super-effective moves.
To make this process a bit easier, we’ve rounded up some examples so you can more easily set up your team.
Pokémon To Use Against Fire Types
If you want to add Pokémon that are super-effective against Fire types, you have a lot of good options.
However, these are the ones you should keep an eye out for while exploring.
- Gigalith (Rock)
- Rockruff (Rock)
- Omastar (Rock/Water)
- Geodude (Rock/Ground)
- Squirtle (Water)
- Kingler (Water)
- Quagsire (Water/Ground)
- Drednaw (Water/Rock)
- Sandslash (Ground)
- Sandacobra (Ground)
- Rhydon (Ground/Rock)
Any of these Pokémon will be able to bring down a Fire-type Pokémon quickly, and we highly recommend adding at least one of them to your team.
Along with these Pokémon, you will also want to double-check their move sets to ensure they will be doing super effective damage.
Moves To Use Against Fire Types
While you can technically use any move against a Fire-type, this is a terrible strategy, since not all attacks are effective.
What you need to aim for are super effective moves that exploit the weaknesses of Fire-type enemies.
The best offensive moves to use include:
- Bulldoze (Ground)
- Earthquake (Ground)
- Sand Attack (Ground)
- Smack Down (Rock)
- Rock Slide (Rock)
- Stone Edge (Rock)
- Water Pulse (Water)
- Aqua Tail (Water)
- Surf (Water)
Each of these moves is super effective against Fire-type Pokémon, and they are what you should prioritize in battle.
Some of these moves certain Pokémon will start with, but others you should look for as TMs while exploring.
However, no matter which ones you end up using, know that they will do some serious damage against any Fire-type that gets in your way!
Fire-type Pokémon aren’t something you should underestimate, and they will do a lot of damage if given the chance.
Now that you know how to counter a Fire Pokémon, you should be able to defeat any of them in combat easily!
