Flying Type Pokemon Weaknesses and Strengths

Flying-type Pokémon are one of eighteen types you can find in any Pokémon game.

While they are solid physical attackers, they also have their own unique weaknesses that every trainer needs to know.

However, even if you’ve been playing Pokémon for years, it can be hard to remember how each type functions.

That’s why we’ve created this guide you can use the next time you play a Pokémon game.

So, without further ado, here is everything you need to know about Flying-type weaknesses.

Flying Type Pokémon Weaknesses

If you’ve found yourself in the middle of a Pokémon battle against a Rookidee wondering, “What are Flying-type Pokémon weak against” you’re not alone.

With 18 different Pokémon types to keep track of, remembering the weaknesses of every single one is a challenge.

However, there are three main Flying-type Pokémon weaknesses which are:

  • Electric
  • Ice
  • Rock

Using these kinds of attacks against a flying type will deal the most damage, even if you’re facing off against one of the best bird Pokémon in the series.

Likewise, you definitely don’t want to toss in your Pidgeot if you’re going to be battling these types of Pokémon.

Flying Type Pokémon Resistances

If you’re using a Flying Pokémon, you need to know what it is resistant to so you can use it effectively in battles.

The three types that Flying Pokémon are resistant to include:

  • Grass
  • Bug
  • Fighting

They are also immune to Ground-type moves but can lose this immunity by being affected by moves like Ingrain, Gravity, Thousand Arrows, and Smackdown.

Flying types can also be incredibly useful against Pokémon with dual types of their resistances, such as Parasect, which is a Bug/Grass type.

Best Counters For Flying Type Pokémon

If you’re going to be taking on a Gym Leader with a lot of Flying-type Pokémon, you’ll want to bring the right counters along.

Electric, Rock, and Steel-type Pokémon are all resistant to Flying-types and will be your best bet at securing victory.

Rock and Electic, in particular, will be especially useful since their moves will be super effective against any Flying-type.

For example, Luxio or Electrike, two of the best dog Pokémon, would be good choices because they are electric types.

Similarly, Rockruff, or its evolved form Lycanroc, can be useful as a fast-hitting rock-type Pokémon.

What Beats Flying Type Pokémon?

If you’re looking to take down a flying type, you have a lot of options to consider since there are many good Pokémon to use against it.

The last thing you want to do is start a battle with a Pokémon type that isn’t going to do much damage or, worse, will be vulnerable to a Flying type!

Likewise, there are certain moves that are known to cause them more damage, so you will want to teach them to your Pokémon as soon as possible.

With the right Pokémon and the right move sets, you can easily take out any Flying type that gets in your way.

Pokémon To Use Against Flying Types

When it’s time to take down a flying type, these are some of the best Pokémon to have on your team.

  • Pikachu (Electric-type)
  • Magneton (Electric/Steel-type)
  • Vulpix (Ice-type)
  • Sandslash (Ice/Steel-type)
  • Gigalith (Rock-type)
  • Graveler (Rock/Electric-type)

If you’re able to have at least one of these Pokémon on your team, they can be your go-to counter for any Flying types you come across.

However, you will also have to make sure you have the right moves lined up as well!

Moves To Use Against Flying Types

Some moves are more effective against flying types, and you’ll want to make sure your Pokémon know them if you want to have the biggest impact.

The best offensive moves to use include:

  • Discharge (Electric)
  • Thunderbolt (Electric)
  • Wild Charge (Electric)
  • Frost Breath (Ice)
  • Ice Beam (Ice)
  • Icicle Crash (Ice)
  • Stone Edge (Rock)
  • Rock Slide (Rock)
  • Power Gem (Rock)

If you’re able to perform any of these moves against a Flying Type, you’ll be able to inflict a ton of damage.

On the other hand, if you’re planning on using a Flying-type in one of the best Pokémon games of all time, you’ll want to watch out for these moves!

Summary

Flying-type Pokémon are some of the best in the game for offensive moves, but they do have their own weaknesses.

If you find yourself going up against a Flying-type, you’ll want to make sure you know exactly how to counter and defeat it.

Be sure to keep this guide handy if you’re going to be going up against a Flying-type Pokémon!
