OSRS 1-99 Herblore Guide

Although herblore training isn’t important for those just starting out, it is incredibly important for high-level players.

This skill is particularly useful for raids, though reaching level 99 will require a bit of work and, usually, a lot of money!

However, if you’re new to leveling herblore, you’ve come to the right place.

In this OSRS herblore guide, we’re going to be covering everything you need to know to make reaching level 99 as easy as possible.

OSRS Herblore Guide: Level 1-99

In this OSRS herblore guide, we will be covering everything from tips and tricks to the different quests you can complete for XP.

We will also be talking about some of the best leveling methods you can use to make reaching level 99 faster and more efficient.

While it will still take a bit of grinding, this skill can be incredibly useful, especially for high-level players who want to become as powerful as possible.

That said, there are some things we still need to cover before we dive into the different techniques you can use.

Why Train Herblore In OSRS?

When it comes to leveling herblore in OSRS, newer players won’t find it as important as those who are in the end-game stages.

However, this skill is essential if you want to create potions, which can be incredibly helpful when exploring some of the game’s most dangerous dungeons.

There are also a number of quests that require various degrees of herblore training, so you’ll need to advance in order to complete them.

Some of the most significant quests requiring herblore include Lunar Diplomacy, Heroes’ Quest, and Song of the Elves.

Herblore training can also give you a method for making a considerable profit without a lot of effort.

Things To know

Before we get started on the techniques and methods you can use for leveling up herblore, there are a few things we need to cover first.

Most notably, what you need to do before you can start training herblore, as it isn’t something you can just jump into.

In order to start leveling, you first have to complete the Druidic Ritual quest to unlock herblore.

To start this quest, you will need to speak with Kaqemeex, who can be found in the stone circle north of Taverley.

For this quest, all you will have to do is add a raw rat, bear, chicken, and beef to the Cauldron of Thunder. You can then speak to Kaqemex again to end the quest.

By the time you complete Druidic Ritual, your herblore skill will have advanced to level 3, giving you a slight boost.

Tips & Tricks

Lastly, we’re going to cover some tips and tricks to make learning herblore a bit easier.

The best advice we can give is to stock up on gold before beginning your training, as the fastest method will require a lot of money.

Overall, you can expect to pay roughly 200 million if you plan on buying your way to level 99, which is possible if you’re character is set up correctly.

There is also one of the best amulets in OSRS, the amulet of chemistry, which can be created by enchanting a jade amulet with a level 2-enchanting spell.

Alternatively, you can buy one for 1000 coins on the Grand Exchange, and we definitely recommend grabbing it.

The amulet of chemistry starts off with 5 charges, and it provides a 5% chance of getting an extra dose out of any potion.

Similarly, you can use botanical pies to give yourself a +4 boost to your herblore level, which can be incredibly useful!

Quest Experience Rewards

If you want to gain experience while questing, you’re in luck because there are a number of quests that reward herblore experience.

However, these quests also often have additional requirements that you will have to meet in order to complete them.

That said, we’ve chosen some of the best quests you can complete throughout your training to give you a break from grinding.

1. Recruitment Drive

This is the first in the Temple Knight quest series, and it requires the completion of the Black Knights’ Fortress and Druidic Ritual to begin.

A short, novice quest, Recruitment Drive, can be started by speaking with Sir Amik Varze at the White Knights’ Castle’s western tower.

Once it is completed, you will receive 1k herblore experience and access to one of the best sets of melee armor in OSRS, the initiate armor.

2. The Dig Site

This intermediate quest requires 10 agility, 10 herblore, and 25 thieving to complete, making it a decent choice for lower-level players.

In order to begin this quest, you will have to speak with an examiner in the Exam Centre south of the dig site east of Varrock.

When you finish The Dig Site, you will receive 2k herblore and 15k mining experience, which is quite a boon if you’re planning on leveling that skill as well.

3. Land Of The Goblins

This quest is geared toward experienced players, and it requires 38 agility, 40 fishing, 45 thieving, and 48 herblore to begin.

You will also have to complete the Another Slice of H.A.M., The Giant Dwarf, The Dig Site, and Fishing Contest before it becomes available.

Once these conditions are met, you can speak with Grubfoot in the Dorgesh-Kaan mine, which can be accessed via the Lumbridge castle tunnels.

Upon completion, players will receive 8,000 herblore XP and access to the Gobli Temple and Yu’biusk using the BLQ fairy ring.

This quest will give you the ability to make goblin potions, which can give you the ability to transform into a goblin.

4. Song Of The Elves

This is the final quest in the Elf quest series, and it is a grandmaster-level challenge that comes with a lot of requirements.

Players will need 70 agility, construction, farming, herblore, hunter, mining, smithing, and woodcutting to complete it.

Additionally, it will only become available after completing Mourning’s End Part II, Making History, and all of their prior parts.

When you have done that, you can speak to Edmond in East Ardougne, just north of the Flying Horse Inn.

Once you complete this quest, you will receive 40k herblore experience and access to Prifddinas.

You will also receive a respawn point in Prifddinas, as well as the ability to create divine potions, which are some of the most valuable in the game!

Fastest Method

Now, if you want to hit level 99 in herblore as quickly as possible, you’ll need to use this method.

You’ll also need to have as much money as possible, as buying the ingredients you need will be much faster than gathering them yourself.

However, if you already have skills like mining or smithing, it will be incredibly easy to gather all of the money you need and then some.

Levels 3-5: Attack Potions

Once you complete Druidic Ritual, you will be at level 3 and can start off by crafting attack potions.

These are made using a Guam potion, which can be made using Guam leaf and a vial of water, and an eye of newt.

Eye of newt can be looted from many monsters, but Newtroost will always drop them when vanquished.

However, they can also be purchased from herblore shop such as Betty’s Magic Emporium and Jatix’s Herblore Shop.

These materials can also be purchased from the Grand Exchange, which is what we would recommend for speed.

Levels 5-12: Anti-Poison Potions

At level 5, you can start creating anti-poison potions, which are made by mixing marrentill potion with unicorn horn dust.

While marentill requires 14 farming to cultivate, it is much easier to buy, and a single leaf will cost around 35 coins.

You can likewise buy unicorn horn dust for 200 coins on the Grand Exchange, though this will cost you 200 gold for each lot.

Levels 12-26: Strength Potions

When you hit level 12, you’ll want to start making strength potions using tarromin potion and limpwurt root.

Buying a tarromin potion will set you back about 200 coins each, while limpwurt root costs nearly 300 gold.

However, each strength potion you make will provide 50 herblore experience, making it easy to get from level 12 to 26 quickly.

Levels 26-38: Energy Potions

At level 26, you can switch your focus to energy potions made from harralander potions and chocolate dust.

Harralander potions will cost you 500 gold each, while chocolate dust is considerably less expensive, costing only 45.

These potions will give you 67 XP each, and while they can be sold for almost 400 gold, you definitely won’t be making your money back.

Levels 38-45: Prayer Potions

When you hit level 38, you can switch to making prayer potions by mixing ranarr potions with snape grass.

A single ranarr potion will cost you around 6k on the grand exchange, while snape grass will run you about 450 coins.

However, a single prayer potion can also be sold for around 8k gold, which can help you make back a decent portion of your spending thus far.

Levels 45-48: Super Attack Potions

Once you are level 45, you can start briefly making super attack potions by combining irit potions and eye of newt.

A single irit potion will run you about 1,000, while an eye of newt will cost about 4 gold, which makes them easy to stock up on.

Unfortunately, super attack potions will only sell for roughly 800 coins, so you won’t be making your money back at this time.

However, each one you make will grant you 100 herblore experience, making them a good way to clear these three levels quickly.

Levels 48-52: Super Anti-Poison Potions

At this level, you’ll want to start making super anti-poison potions using irit potions and unicorn horn dust.

You’ll want to make sure not to discard these ingredients after making the standard anti-poison potions from before.

Each of these potions will provide 106 herblore XP, though they will only sell for roughly 400 gold, so don’t expect a big ROI if you sell your creations.

Levels 52-55: Super Energy Potions

Once you hit level 52, you’ll need to start making super energy potions from avantoe potions and mort myre fungus.

Avantoe potions cost about 2,000, while mort myre fungus will cost around 200 each on the grand exchange.

However, each super energy potion will grant you 117 herblore XP, and they sell for 3,000 each, which can make up a bit of the difference.

Levels 55-63: Super Strength Potions

At level 55, you can start making super-strength potions using a kwuam potion and limpwurt root.

While we’ve already covered the cost of limpwurt root, a kwuam potion will cost you about 3k gold.

Fortunately, super strength potions also sell for roughly 3,000 each, making them worth banking and selling for future profit.

Levels 63-69: Super Restore Potions

When you hit level 63, you can start crafting super restore potions using snapdragon potions and red spiders eggs.

Snapdragon potions can be purchased for around 7k, while red spiders eggs will cost you around 450 each.

However, these potions will provide 142 XP each and can be sold for 9k on the Grand Exchange, making them perfect for both profit and leveling.

They are also worth holding onto as they rival even the best foods for healing in OSRS and can be great to use in dungeons!

Levels 69-72: Antifire Potions

Next, you can start making antifire potions at level 69, created using lantadyme potions and dragon scale dust.

Lantadyme potions cost roughly 2k, and dragon scale dust only costs about 130 gold, making this relatively affordable for such a powerful potion.

Each potion you create will also grant you 157 XP and can later be sold for 1k on the Grand Exchange.

Levels 72-81: Ranging Potions

At level 72, you’ll start making ranging potions using dwarf weed potions and wine of Zamorak.

Dwarf weed potions will cost about 1k on the grand exchange, while the wine of Zamorak will run you about 700 each.

While a ranging potion will only sell for about 1.2k, they do provide 162 XP each, allowing you to level up quickly.

Levels 81-99: Saradomin Brews

Once you hit level 81, you can rejoice because you’re in the home stretch, and your skill is nearly maxed out!

At this point, you’ll be crafting Saradomin brews, a potion that is akin to the rarest drops in OSRS with how in demand it is.

To make this potion, you will need a toadflax potion and a crushed nest, which can be bought for 3k and 5k, respectively.

Each potion you make will grant you 180 herblore XP, and you can sell them for 8.5k each on the Grand Exchange.

Alternative Method

Along with this quick method, there are also some alternatives that you can consider if you want to level up your herblore skill.

While these methods are much slower, they will still boost your level over time and often save you money.

Cleaning Herbs

Cleaning herbs from monster drops and farming is one alternative way to level up your herblore, and it is something you can do from level 3 all the way up to level 99.

Torstol is the most profitable herb to clean, and it can be worth about 100 coins while providing 15 XP each time.

However, cleaning torstol does require level 75 herblore, so it is something you will have to work your way up to while cleaning other herbs.

Unfinished Potions

Creating unfinished potions is another way to boost your herblore skill from 3 to 99, though it offers very little XP overall.

However, this can be used alongside cleaning herbs which can increase XP gain and value.

While all unfinished potions are valuable to some extent, ranarr weeds offer the highest profit margin, and you can easily make 700k per hour using them.
