Rivals of Aether Tier List
Fans of fighting games, buckle up, for we will be ranking the best characters in Dan Fornace’s game with this Rivals of Aether Tier List.
Four years ago, when Super Smash Bros was at its peak, fan Dan Fornace decided to make his very own version of the game. Named Rivals of Aether, the spin-off fighting game received positive reception from critics who loved it for its deep gameplay. Rivals of Aether sets itself apart from Nintendo’s crossover fighting game by introducing interesting and influential characters.
We say influential because this games’ characters are not only capable of using elemental-based attacks. They are also capable of having passive abilities that can affect the stage. How cool is that! While some can release bubbles that trap enemies or ice that increases mobility, others can summon a water puddle that powers up users or doubles as a portal. All 14 base characters of Rivals came from different warring civilizations, representing a natural element.
Since we’re already talking about exciting characters in Rivals of Aether, let’s jump to the tier list already!
RIVALS OF AETHER TIER LIST
Making this Rivals of Aether Tier List has been a little tricky (at least, for me). That’s because the small roster of rivals made it easier for the game developers to provide each rival with ample support and updates. Some even players would even say that differences between characters will only matter in tournies and pro plays.
Nonetheless, we’ll be trying our best to come up with a Rivals of Aether Tier List, in the hopes of helping newbies pick a rival that will make them enjoy the game as much as possible.
Our Rivals of Aether Tier List will have four tiers: S, A, B, and C. As you may have already guessed, S-Tier will be made up of characters considered the most powerful in the game. On the other hand, A-Tier will refer to great alternatives that offer a relatively high chance of winning. The B-Tier will give you the Rivals who are okay, average. Finally, C-Tier will be listing the “worst” characters (we’ve intentionally added the quotation marks because, as mentioned, all the rivals are super viable).

RIVALS OF AETHER TIER LIST: THE DETAILS
S-Tier
- Forsburn
Capable of harnessing the power of smoke, Forsburn has many good combos and a lot of utility. The only catch is he has a steep learning curve, making him a hard pick for beginners. Some of Forsburn’s elemental powers include Smoke Screen, Decoy, and Consume/Combust. - Maypul
Popular among players all around the globe, Maypul is usually picked because of her great strengths and agile movements. Maypul may not be able to heal herself, but she can definitely kick some ass with her Watcher’s Mark, Wrapped Up, and Sling Shot. - Ori and Sein
Coming from Ori and the Blind Forest, Ori and Sein work together to defeat their enemy. While Ori uses Bash, Stomp, and Glide to attain victory, Sein works on putting their rivals between a rock and a hard place with Spirit Flame or Charged Flame. - Ranno
As the third water-based character in the game, Ranno dominates his foes by launching his Toxic Trap that allows him to combo. He also uses Poison Spin and Poison Stacks that renders his enemies helpless. - Sylvanos
Imagine a wolf, but with big leaves for fur and branches for legs, that’s what Sylvanos is. Tagged as the ultimate villain in the world of Aether, he makes his wrath felt through Untamed Growth, Burrow, and Vine Pin.
A-Tier
- Absa
Representing lighting is Absa. Quick on her feet, she is one of the hardest characters to learn because of her unique playstyle. Still, she’s worth investing time on with her killer Cloud Control, Thunder Bolt, and Condensed Storm. - Etalus
Heaviest in the group, Etalus is one tough guy to kill. His ice armor reduces knockback, and his icicles make up for one of the strongest edge-guarding in the game. His elemental powers are Home Ice Advantage, Armored Up, and Avalanche. - Clairen
There may be nothing exceptional about Clairen’s attributes, but she can surely deal damage with her sword. To add, her exceptional force field can also make it hard for enemies to approach her. Clairen’s elemental powers are Ionized Tip, Plasma Echo, and Energy Field. - Wrastor
As funny looking as he may be, there is nothing laughable about Wrastor’s special moves. For instance, his Forward Special can create a slipstream that amps his overall speed. His elemental powers — Winged Flight, Wind Current, and Aerial Ace — are also handy, especially when he needs to escape. - Zetterburn
If you are after cool-looking characters, then Zetterburn is the perfect one for you. A buff lion with flames for a mane, Zetterburn will set the world on fire with his Burn Damage, Wild Fire, and Fire Amp.
B-Tier
- Kragg
As the Earth’s Bastion, Kragg is skillful in using unique blocks to confuse and eventually combo opponents. Known for his big build and strong edge-guarding, Kragg uses Rock Hurl, Defense Ball, and Earth Pillar to defeat his enemies. - Elliana
People usually don’t associate the element heat or steam with snakes, but that has to change with Elliana. With complicated projectiles for her missiles and rockets, Elliana can easily disrupt her foes. Her elemental powers are Overheat, Letting Off Steam, and Abandon Ship.
C-Tier
- Shovel Knight
A guest character from a game of the same name, Shovel Knight, can adapt to different matchups and playstyles. All you have to do is visit the shop and get some upgrades. Shovel Knight’s elemental powers are Treasure Hunter, Relics and Armor, and Shovel Drop. - Orcane
Orcane is cute, yes, but he is just as dangerous as he’s adorable. He is also capable of dealing long and intricate combos through his quick attacks and puddle stage control. His elemental powers are Puddle Teleportation, Bubble Evaporation, and Water Amp.
Conclusion
There you have it, a concise and easy-to-follow Rivals of Aether Tier List that players of varying skills can count on to have an enjoyable fighting game laced with natural elements. With a team of dedicated developers, fan-made Rivals of Aether continues to improve by the day. In fact, we can expect four new characters to join the already impeccable roster of fighters in this indie game. Before this year ends, Mollo: The Smoldering Rage, Hodan: The Hot Springs Sage, Pomme: The Superstar Songstress, and Olympia: The Amethyst Fist will be fighting alongside our rivals.
