The Best Smithing Locations in OSRS

What are the best smithing locations in OSRS?

If you’re looking to raise your smithing level or make some useful equipment, you’ll need to know where to go.

Not every smithing location is worth using, which is why we’ve made this useful list!

Here, we will be counting down the best smithing locations in Old School Runescape so you can easily find the best one for your character.

The 10 Best Smithing Locations in OSRS

Smithing is one of the most useful skills in Old School Runescape, but to get the most out of it, you need a good anvil location.

To make finding the best anvils for smithing easier, we’ve rounded up the top 10 that you need to check out for yourself!

So, grab your smiting tools and dive into our list of the 10 best smithing locations in OSRS:

10. Dragon Forge

Kicking off our list, we have the Dragon Forge, which can be found in the southwest corner of the Ancient Cavern.

This forge is relit during the Dragon Slayer II quest, and it can then be used to forge dragon platebodies and kite shields.

Aside from being able to forge some of the best shields in OSRS here, this forge can be used to make a decent amount of coin.

Dragon platebodies can be sold on the Grand Exchange for around 2.7 million, while dragon kite shields can get upwards of 45 million.

Although you can only craft dragon equipment here, the profit you can make if you have the materials is well worth it!

This mine can be reached using the whirlpool near Otto Godblessed’s house, though it does contain high-level metal and mithril dragons.

9. Dwarven Mine

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Dwarven Mine

Next up, we have the anvil located inside the Dwarven Mine, which can be incredibly useful.

This is especially true for players using the superheat item spell to smelt ore, which can then be immediately smithed.

However, even if you aren’t using that spell, there is a designated furnace near the south entrance of the mine.

All you’ll have to do is smelt your gathered ore in mass and then head to the south end to smith it immediately.

You could also use the disk of returning to easily travel between the north and south portions of the mine.

This item can be purchased from Diango’s Toy Store, and it definitely makes this location one of the best for smithing.

8. Ruins of Camdozaal

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Ruins of Camdozaal

The Ruins of Camdozaal are located underneath Ice Mountain, and they can be accessed after completing the Below Ice Mountain quest.

What makes this location great for smithing are the two anvils located there, both next to Ramarno.

One is a regular anvil, while the other is called the Barronite Crusher, and it is used to crush unique barronite deposits.

Better still, there is a bank chest located in the center of the ruins, just east of Romarno’s location.

This makes it easy to store your creations for sale later on the Grand Exchange so that you can make a profit.

If you need materials for smithing, there are also 18 barronite rocks here, which have a chance to drop gems, barronite deposits, and even clue geodes.

7. Wilderness Resource Area

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Wilderness Resource Area

The level 23 wilderness sports an anvil that can be great for players using the superheat items spell on ore mined nearby.

In this location, you can have access to iron, adamantite, gold, and mithril ore, which you can then smith after smelting.

However, if you aren’t superheating items, this anvil can still be useful if you’re smelting ore at the Eastern Ruins furnace.

That said, because this area is a hot spot for player-killers, you’ll want to be careful if you decide to set up shop here.

Don’t bring along anything you wouldn’t want to lose, and stock up on some of the best healing foods in OSRS, just in case!

If you’re a high enough level player, though, you should be fairly safe here, especially if you’re just popping in for some smithing.

6. Void Knights’ Outpost

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Void Knights Outpost

This outpost can be found on a small island to the very south of the map, and it mainly hosts the minigame Pest Control.

However, it also has an anvil nearby to a smith that can repair one of the best melee armor sets in OSRS, the Barrows Armor.

This makes the island incredibly popular in and of itself, though it also has a nearby bank that makes storing things easy.

To find this anvil, and the smith, start at the bank and walk directly west, and in a bit, you’ll run right into it.

Although this anvil isn’t the most useful in OSRS if you’re already going to repair your Barrows Armor, it’s worth keeping in mind.

5. Lumbridge

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Lumbridge

Located in the town where every player begins their journey is the Rusted Anvil, which can be used to smith bronze bars.

The Rusted Anvil is useful from level 1 through level 99, and while it can only craft bronze items, it can provide some solid XP.

While the anvil itself is close to the Lumbridge furnace, the bank is about 80 tiles away, making storing items a small inconvenience.

However, if you’re just starting out, you’ll find no better smithing location, especially since it is so easy to get to.

Just make sure to stock up on bronze and keep a hammer in your inventory before you get started!

4. Keldagrim Blast Furnace

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Blast Furnace

Many players consider the Blast Furnace to be one of the best places to gain smithing experience in OSRS.

Here, you can easily smelt your bars while also taking advantage of any of the three nearby anvils.

What’s more, is that the bank chest is only a short 20-tile walk away, so storing items is a breeze!

However, you can only use this location if your smithing level is 60 or higher, so lower-level players will have to work elsewhere for a bit.

You will also need to complete The Giant Dwarf quest in order to gain access, though this won’t take too long.

That said, once you hit level 60, you can literally do everything here. You can buy ores, smelt them, and smith them, all without having to leave!

3. Otto’s Grotto

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Ottos Grotto

At Otto’s Grotto, located near the Barbarian Outpost, there is a unique anvil known as the barbarian anvil.

This anvil can only be used to smith hastas and spears, and it is one of only two places in OSRS where this is possible.

However, this anvil isn’t available for free-to-play players, meaning you have to be a member to gain access.

You will also need to complete barbarian training and learn how to use the anvil before you can use it.

That said, using magic logs and runite bars, you can earn 150 XP for every rune hasta you smith, leading to a huge amount of smithing experience.

While you may not be crafting the best crush weapons in OSRS here, you can certainly make a lot of progress toward smithing level 99!

2. Western Varrock

Best OSRS Smithing Locations West Varrock

One of the most popular anvil locations in OSRS is in Western Varrock, and it lies only 10 tiles away from the bank.

This anvil is available for both members and free-to-play players, and it isn’t locked behind any quests.

Because of this, you can start using this anvil very early in the game, which has helped boost its popularity.

To find this anvil, head south of the west bank, northwest from Horvik’s Armor Shop, or south from the east bank.

It is hard to miss this anvil since it is usually swarmed by numerous players looking to level up their smithing skill!

1. South Prifddinas

Best OSRS Smithing Locations Prifddinas

Taking our number one spot is the anvil located in the very southeast corner of the city of Prifddinas.

Only 9 tiles away from the bank, this anvil is also the closest you can find to a furnace in the entire game.

The furnace here is located directly across the anvil, allowing you to go between the two to gain smithing experience quickly.

Unfortunately, unlocking this anvil is easier said than done, and it requires you to complete one of the most difficult quests in OSRS.

In order to gain access to this anvil, you will have to complete the grandmaster quest Song of the Elves.

This quest requires a level 70 in agility, construction, farming, herblore, hunter, mining, smithing, and woodcutting.

You will also have to complete a handful of prerequisite quests as well to get Song of the Elves to trigger.

While it may seem easier to grab the best weapons in OSRS than unlock this anvil, the effort is definitely worth it!
